(WASHINGTON, D.C., 2/20/16)

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said leading GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump's latest anti-Muslim remarks endanger ordinary American Muslims who are already facing a rising wave of hate prompted by the billionaire businessman's previous Islamophobic statements.

At a rally yesterday in South Carolina, Trump repeated the online myth about U.S. Gen. John Pershing executing Muslim prisoners in the Philippines.

"He took 50 bullets and he dipped them in pig's blood," Trump said. "And he had his men load his rifles and he lined up the 50 people, and they shot 49 of those people. And the 50th person, he said, 'You go back to your people and you tell them what happened.' And for 25 years there wasn't a problem."

In a statement, CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad said:

"Donald Trump's inflammatory rhetoric has crossed the line from spreading hatred to inciting violence. By directly stating that the only way to stop terrorism is to murder Muslims in graphic and religiously-offensive ways, he places the millions of innocent, law-abiding citizens in the American Muslim community at risk from rogue vigilantes. He further implies that our nation should adopt a strategy of systematized violence in its engagement with the global Muslim community, a chilling message from a potential leader. We pray that no one who hears this message follows his gospel of hate."

He said CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in anti-Muslim incidents nationwide since the Paris terror attacks, the San Bernardino shootings and Donald Trump's bigoted call for a complete ban on Muslims entering the United States.

Growing Islamophobia will be one issue brought up with lawmakers at the second annual National Muslim Advocacy Day on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., on April 18, 2016. Expected to draw hundreds of Muslim delegates from across the nation, this one-day event is open to representatives of all national, state and local Muslim organizations and communities.

CAIR recently welcomed remarks by President Obama at the Islamic Society of Baltimore in which he rejected "inexcusable political rhetoric" targeting Muslims.

The Washington-based Muslim civil rights group is also asking Muslim community members to report any bias incidents to police and to CAIR's Civil Rights Department at 202-742-6420 or by filing a report at: http://www.cair.com/civil-rights/report-an-incident/view/form.html

Torres was freed in January, was re-arrested in February on another charge and was again released. He was arrested again this morning on outstanding bond forfeiture warrants.

In a statement, CAIR-DFW Executive Director Alia Salem said:

"We welcome the news of the arrest of Anthony Paz Torres this morning. The victims of this heinous attack, the Muslim community and all area residents can breathe a little easier knowing the alleged assailant is behind bars. Yesterday, CAIR-DFW held a press conference to express outrage at his release and subsequent arrest and re-release.

"We applaud the efforts of the Dallas Police Department and the U.S. Marshal's who banded together to get this suspect back into custody. Now we must focus our efforts on ensuring that he remains in custody pending trial."

"CAIR-DFW is planning to work with the district attorney's office and the mayor's office to do everything we can on behalf of the victims and to ensure an outcome that provides for the safety of all Dallas residents."

Torres, who wore a traditional Jewish cap (yarmulke), had reportedly visited Omar's Tire Shop in Dallas two weeks prior to the attack. During that visit, he allegedly asked whether "Omar" is Muslim. When told that he is, the alleged attacker reportedly replied, "All these Muslims, they're making problems for us," and told employees at the site, "I'm gonna come back and kill all of y'all."

During the December 24 attack, Torres reportedly shouted "Muslim" as he fired, killing one person and critically injuring another. Several other people suffered minor injuries. Torres was charged with murder and aggravated assault and was being held on $500,000 bail.

CAIR has reported an unprecedented spike in anti-Muslim attacks since the Paris terror attacks, the San Bernardino shootings and Donald Trump's inflammatory anti-Muslim rhetoric.

The Muslim plaintiff in the lawsuit will take part in the news conference.

Wednesday's news conference comes after CAIR-OK challenged the "Muslim-free" gun range for violating civil rights law by displaying a sign stating that Muslims were banned from the facility. "For an establishment to ban someone based on their religion is not just reprehensible it is against the law," said Veronica Laizure, civil rights director for CAIR-OK. CAIR-Dallas to Demand Answers After Release of Domestic Terror Suspect Who Allegedly Targeted Muslims

(DALLAS/FORT WORTH, TX, 2/15/16) On Tuesday, February 16, the Dallas/Fort Worth chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-DFW) will hold a news conference outside the Dallas County District Attorney's office to express community concerns and demand answers over the release on bail of a suspect who allegedly carried out a deadly Christmas Eve shooting in which he reportedly targeted his victims because he believed they were Muslim.

WHAT: CAIR-Dallas to React to Release of Domestic Terror Suspect WHEN: Tuesday, February 16, 4:30 p.m. (Local Time) WHERE: Frank Crowley Courts Building, 133 N Riverfront Blvd LB 19, Dallas, TX 75207 CONTACT: CAIR-DFW Executive Director Alia Salem, 817-538-8269, [email protected]

The alleged shooter, 30-year-old Anthony Paz Torres, was reportedly freed in January, but the local Muslim community was never informed of his release by law enforcement authorities. He was reportedly re-arrested in February on another charge and was released the next day. Last month, CAIR-DFW called for the attack to be treated as an act of domestic terrorism.

"We are certain that if the alleged shooter in this case had been Muslim, he would never have been released and the attack would have rightfully been investigated as an act of domestic terrorism," said CAIR-DFW Executive Director Alia Salem. "The Muslim community is justified in its safety concerns following the unannounced release of an individual who is accused of a bias-motivated murder."

She noted that there has been an unprecedented spike in anti-Muslim attacks since the Paris terror attacks, the San Bernardino shootings and Donald Trump's inflammatory anti-Muslim rhetoric.
