US-Russian skirmishes: Russian forces avoid provocation by their American counterparts, heading to Ain Issa through areas held by Turkish-backed factions

Provocative acts continue between U.S. forces and their Russian counterparts in what has become a familiar scene in the northern and eastern regions of Syria.

According to Observatory sources, U.S. armoured vehicles tried to block Russian vehicles on the M4 road before arriving in the area of Tal Tamer.

Moreover, Russian soldiers alighted from their vehicles and headed towards the American armoured vehicles, whose vehicles blocked their way at the western entrance to Tal Tamer.

Meanwhile, five U.S. armoured vehicles were stationed on the M4 and at Hattin junction on the road between the cities of Al-Hasakeh and Al-Qamishli, waiting for Russian vehicles to prevent them from passing on the road.

The Russian column consisting of about 30 military vehicles deliberately passed through the town of Mabrouka, which is under the control of Turkish forces and their proxy factions, to Ain Issa, north of Raqqa. 

On May 4, reliable sources informed the Syrian observatory that U.S. troops have deployed since early morning at the eastern entrance of Tal Tamr in Al-Hasakah countryside, in order to block the way of a Russian patrol set off from the Russian base in southern Tal Tamr. SOHR activists have monitored U.S. helicopters flying over the area. Meanwhile, the Russian patrol took Aleppo-Al-Hasakah international highway to Al-Alya town.

Al-Bab: Fierce clashes between gunmen from the city and members of Turkish-backed factions trigger public discontent

Aleppo Governorate – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has monitored this evening clashes with machine guns between a group of gunmen from a family in the city of Al-Bab and members of “Sultan Murad” faction. The roads were cut off in the neighborhood where the clashes took place, amid a state of fear among citizens and distress calls for the intervention of the factions to resolve the conflict between the two parties.

Yesterday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored clashes in the area of Akhtarin in northern Aleppo countryside, between two armed families. No information was reported about the causes of the clashes, which occur daily in the areas controlled by Turkish forces and proxy factions, amid great popular discontent. Meanwhile, factions of the “National Army” intervened to resolve the conflict between the two parties, which resulted in material damage to the property of citizens.

Drone attack: Airstrikes kill commander of “National Liberation Front” in southern Idlib

SOHR sources have confirmed that an armed drone, believed to be affiliated to Iranian-backed militias, struck the car of a commander in the “1st Infantry Division” of National Liberation Front. The attack took place in Al-Bara area in Jabal Al-Zawiyah in the southern countryside of Idlib, which caused his instant death. 

On May 22, SOHR sources said rescue teams identified one of the dead in the drone attack on the previous day. Reports suggested that the attack was carried out by International Coalition forces. 

A vehicle was targeted on the road Sheikh Iskan in rural Jendiras, west of Aleppo. SOHR sources said that one of the dead was identified as an ex-ISIS commander who used to move constantly between areas in Idlib and Jendires, while Turkish forces detained the wounded man, whose fate remained unknown. 

Reliable sources told SOHR on May 21 that a drone, whose identity were unknown, struck a military vehicle on the road to Sheikh Iskan in southern Afrin in the north-western countryside of Aleppo. The attack resulted in the killing of all occupants. However, the identity of fatalities remained unknown as the bodies were completely burnt.

Aleppo Governorate – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights:

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has monitored this evening a violent explosion in the city of Afrin, caused by an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by unknown persons in the center of an electricity generator, near a military checkpoint of Turkish-backed factions.

The explosion caused material damage. No casualties have been reported.

SOHR activists reported earlier hearing an explosion in the Turkish-controlled city of Al-Bab in north-eastern countryside of Aleppo. The explosion was caused by detonating an IED in a vehicle affiliated to “Sultan Murad” Division, which is close to Turkey, near the road to Al-Ra’i in Al-Bab city, north-east of Aleppo. The explosion injured the targeted vehicle’s driver.

SOHR sources reported earlier this morning hearing a loud explosion in the northern countryside of Aleppo in areas under the control of Turkish forces and their proxies. The explosion was caused by detonating a booby-trapped motorcycle on the road between the cities of Azaz and Afrin, which caused material damage but no casualties were reported.
