Airstrikes also left 25 militants dead. The Iraqi military did not report any casualties even though the battle went on for several hours. In Baghdad, a newspaper editor was abducted. Tawfik Al-Tamimi worked for Al-Sabah and had recently complained about another missing journalist. Three militants were killed in the Makhoul Mountains. Protest news: The number of casualties reported in yesterday protest clashes in Baghdad were increased by one dead and 24 wounded, bringing the totals to three dead and 44 wounded. Also, 11 security personnel were wounded. 2 killed, 35 injured in anti-regime protests in Baghdad: sources Sunday، 08 March 2020 06:50 PM Two people were killed and 35 others were injured as security forces clashed with anti-regime protesters in Al-Tahrir square, Baghdad, Al-Arabiya reported, citing sources. Iraqi people took to streets in October last year to protest corruption, poor service, lack of job opportunities and the Iranian influence in Iraq. Although protests forced Prime Minister Adil Abd al-Mahdi to resign, they continued their demonstrations until all their legitimate demands are met. Basra reports first death due to coronavirus The Baghdad Post, Tuesday، 10 March 2020 Basra Governor Asaad Al Eidani announced on Monday the death of a 75-year-old man due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), marking the first death from the virus in the province. The Basra Health Directorate declared in a statement that the deceased was a recent returnee from Iran who visited the country to undergo cardiac surgery. The death comes as a surprise since there were no previously confirmed cases in Basra.
