Emirati newspaper accuses Oman of supporting armed formations in Yemen 'to confuse coalition after alleged role as mediator

The Emirati-funded al-Arab newspaper, published in London, accused Oman of supporting and establishing armed formations in Yemen and working to disrupt the Arab coalition.

The newspaper said in a report published on its front page, Wednesday, that the exposure of the Omani role in Yemen prompted Omanis to escape forward and "openly abandon the policy of dissociation that they were claiming", and worked crudely to move their papers in Yemen to confuse the Arab coalition.

According to the newspaper ,"Muscat, who was trying to portray itself as an intermediary, increased with the arrival of Saudi forces of the Arab coalition to the province of Al-Mahra on the border with Oman and started its work to control the smuggled shipments, including spare parts for ballistic missiles and drones used by Houthis to target Saudi territory.

The newspaper added in its report entitled "Muscat Cell is a key platform to confuse the Arab alliance in Yemen", that Muscat is united by a tripartite alliance with Iran and Qatar, and (Muscat) is implementing the policy of the tripartite alliance in Yemen using tribal and social figures and granting them Omani citizenship as well as politicians Yemeni media and officers.

The newspaper pointed out that the "Muscat Cell" worked to demonize the efforts of the Arab coalition in the fight against terrorism in Yemen, and fabricated many news stories that revolve around accusing the UAE of opening alleged "secret prisons" in the liberated areas, and deliberately mentioning the phrase "supported by the UAE" when talking about Security belt forces and elites in Hadhramaut and Shabwa, although the UAE's role is limited to training and qualifying these forces.

Calm returns to “Turbah”, and reopen of Aden – Taiz road after extradition of accused of killing governor's escorts

Calm has returned to the city of Al- Turbah, the center of Shamaitin Directorate, after nearly a week of military tension between the national army brigades over the killing of the governor's escort, Nabil Shamsan, in the city.

A military source told Al-Masdar Online that calm had returned to the city of Al- Turbah after two steps of the agreement between the commanders of the military brigades in Taiz.

According to the source, the 4th Brigade of mountanious Infantry handed over the individuals accused of killing Osama al-Ash’ari and Ashraf al-Dhubhani, the governor of Taiz escort, to Al-Shabaka prison in Al-Turbah, and the streets of the city and the Taiz Aden line were reopened.

The source expected to implement the remaining provisions of the agreement, which was sponsored by a committee set up a few days ago by the commander of the Ta'izz military axis, Major General Samir Al-Sabry, to end the tension between the army forces in Turbah, including the withdrawal of troops and the lifting of all points created for all parties.

One Soldier killed, 2 injured in al-Mocha mine explosion west of Taiz

A soldier was killed and two others were injured in a mine explosion in al-Mocha district in the western province of Taiz on Monday evening.

A local source told Al-Masdar Online that a landmine left over from the mines planted by Houthi militias earlier exploded with a motorcycle in the village of Al-Mahjar, north of al-Mocha district.

According to the source, private Fida'ad Ahmed bin Ahmed Azabou was killed, and the two leaders Haitham Ibrahim Azabou, Mohammed Saeed Delibi and the victims of the blast who joined the ranks of the forces led by Tariq Saleh after the liberation of Al-Mocha were injured.

Taiz province ranks first on the list of provinces most affected by mines planted by Houthi militias.

Military source: Emirati forces preparing to leave Aden and Sudanese troops left the city yesterday evening

A military source told Al-Masdar Online that Emirati forces will begin to leave a number of military positions in the southern city of Aden and the cities of Al-Mocha and Al-Khokha (west). According to the source, the moves are part of a supposed plan to redeploy Saudi-sponsored military forces, which have been leading the Arab coalition against the Houthis since March 2015.

The military source reported that military units including soldiers, vehicles and military vehicles began to move towards the port of Oil, but the source said that the UAE forces located in the south and west of the country did not leave completely, pointing out that there are Emirati forces still present in the Arab Coalition camp in Buraiqa west the southern city.

The same source said that Sudanese forces stationed at the headquarters of the coalition forces and al-Anad military base in Aden and Lahj provinces (in the south of the country) left the port of oil on Monday evening without specifying where they left.

The source said that a force of the Sudanese army comprising a number of soldiers with their vehicles and some military vehicles began to leave the city of Aden through the port of Oil, but the source did not indicate where it left, but said that it is possible that the Sudanese forces will join the UAE forces in any joint missions for the two sides within any redeployment in the coming days.

It is noteworthy that the Sudanese force, which left Aden yesterday evening, was previously stationed in the headquarters of the Arab Coalition, Camp Bir Ahmed and a number of military positions of the coalition in the areas of the west coast of the country and the Sudanese forces are carrying out training and supervisory tasks in the former positions where they were stationed while some units were carrying out security tasks for UAE forces in some locations.

Saudi-led coalition blows up oil pipeline in Shabwah

Unknown paid fighers on Monday evening blew up a crude oil pipeline in Shabwah province, eastern Yemen, Local sources reported

A pipeline transporting crude oil from Ayadh fields in Jardan district north of Shabwah to Nushima oil port in Radhoum district east of the province was blown up in the upper junction 22 kilometers south of Ataq, a local soure told Sputnik News Agency, adding that flames were seen rising from the distance from a distance.

In March 2015, the US -backed –Saudi-led coalition started  a war against Yemen with the declared aim of crushing the Houthi Ansarullah movement, who had taken over from the staunch Riyadh ally and fugitive former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, while also seeking to secure the Saudi border with its southern neighbor. Three years and over 600,000 dead and injured Yemeni people and  prevented the patients from travelling abroad for treatment and blocked the entry of medicine into the war-torn country, the war has yielded little to that effect.

Despite the coalition claims that it is bombing the positions of the Ansarullah fighters, Saudi bombers are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.

Yemen’s Truce Proposal: What’s behind it?

A week after massive strikes of Yemeni forces on the Saudi oil facilities and causing a huge shock to the Arab monarchy’s economy in retaliation to the daily airstrikes carried out by the Saudi-led Arab coalition, Mahdi al-Mashat, the president of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council, announced a plan for comprehensive and immediate truce with Saudi Arabia and the UAE and an intention to start serious talks that would result in national reconciliation. He also proposed that Ansarullah movement and the army will halt their missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia in return for a cessation of “all kinds” of the Saudi aggression against the Yemeni people.

Naturally, such a proposal after the large-scale attack which was dubbed “second deterrence” and infuriated the Saudi rulers was largely out of expectation. As ever, Saudi Arabia immediately rejected the offer and threatened that it will take retaliatory actions. Apparently, the Yemeni movement was already aware that Riyadh leaders would negatively respond to its suggestion. To put it in other words, the Yemeni player’s suggestion was not driven by optimism to see an end to the war. The revolutionary force’s call seems to carry messages to the home and abroad—messages of significance with regard to the current conditions and developments.

Foiling the enemy’s propaganda war 

One main drive for the new peace proposal by Ansarullah is the movement’s intention to foil Saudi Arabia and the allies’ propaganda waves after the attack on Aramco facilities. Riyadh through its media now works hard to reverse the truth and thus legitimize the aggression against the Yemeni people that mounts to war crimes. Over the past year, Saudi Arabia has been under heavy pressure to end the devastating war against Yemen that is marked by massacring of thousands of civilians by the Saudi fighter jets raining down Western-provided bombs. The world calls on the Saudis to end the war and prevent further crimes and also ease the blockade now in its fifth year. But the Western officials, joining Riyadh in its campaign, seek to ride on the waves of global concerns about the rise of the oil prices. They try to blame Ansarullah as a warlike actor and link its attacks to foreign players like Iran. This serves a final goal of legitimizing their unceasing heinous attacks on the defenseless civilians.

Ansarullah’s proposal works like a counterattack to the Saudi media attacks. The movement said that the bilateral halt of the attacks is the right move. The United Nations supported the offer. With this suggestion, Ansarullah foiled Saudi and Western media propaganda designed to paint the movement the party to blame for the crisis in Yemen. Saudi rejection, on the other side, proved to the world that the kingdom is the main source of crisis and opposes any peace coming to Yemen.

Ball in Saudi court

One of the main goals behind the fresh truce proposal is to make Saudi Arabia shoulder responsibility for continued attacks on its territories. In fact, with the timely move of Ansarullah, now Saudi Arabia is in the front of a simple and logical equation to preserve the security of its oil facilities and vital economic spots: ending the bombardment of the Yemeni cities and killing of the civilians in return for reciprocal move from Yemen. Declining the offer and launching further attacks will give Yemeni forces the justification to launch the next wave of their attacks that very likely could be even larger and more painful. The public will find such attacks legitimate and within a framework of a military balance. Mohamed al-Bukhayti, a member of Ansarullah’s political office, at a press conference threw the ball in the Saudi court, saying that he hopes the Saudis will seize the chance for peace and moving out of the quagmire.

“A halt to the aggression is good to both Yemen and Saudi Arabia. Their interests lie in the materialization of peace. After all, Yemen has nothing to lose.”

Yemen show of strength on revolution anniversary 

From another aspect, it should be taken into account that Ansarullah proposal, made on the fifth anniversary of the revolution that brought down Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi in Sana’a, comes from a strong position and highlights Ansarullah’s upper hand in the battleground. Regarded the fact, Ansarullah appears to want to tell people that the way of resistance and independence as part of the revolution process is the right choice. Independence of neighboring Yemen has always been a factor giving the Saudis panic. Ansarullah also sends the message to the people that another goal of the revolution is home growth and prosperity after cutting the hands of the Saudis and Emiratis from the country’s natural and energy sources.
