Three Turkish soldiers were killed and one was injured in a mortar attack by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey on Saturday, Anadolu Agency reported.

PKK terrorists in northern Iraq fired mortar shells towards Turkey’s southeastern Hakkari province, leaving three soldiers killed and one injured, the Turkish National Defense Ministry said in a press statement on Sunday.

A manhunt operation was launched in the area to apprehend the attackers.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK — listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU — has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people, including many women and children.

IDLIB, Syria

Two Turkish soldiers were wounded by Syrian regime shelling Saturday on a Turkish observation point in the opposition-held de-escalation zone in Idlib, northwestern Syria, according to the Turkish Ministry of National Defense.

The wounded soldiers were evacuated to Turkey and are currently receiving medical care, the ministry said.

Turkish Armed Forces set up 12 observation points in May 2018 following the ninth round of Astana Peace Talks.

Last September, Turkey and Russia agreed to turn Idlib into a de-escalation zone in which acts of aggression would be strictly prohibited.

Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected severity.

Bomb explosion leaves two civilians wounded in Mosul

Two Iraqi people were wounded Saturday in a bomb blast in Mosul city, once a capital of the Islamic State terrorist group’s sprawling self-proclaimed “caliphate”.

“A booby-trapped motorbike went off Saturday in al-Magmoaa area in Mosul’s eastern side, leaving two civilians wounded,” a security source told Al-Ahd News.

“The wounded civilians were moved to a nearby hospital for treatment,” added the source.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

IS declared a self-styled “caliphate” in a third of Iraq and neighboring Syria in 2014. A government campaign, backed by a U.S.-led international coalition and paramilitary forces, was launched in 2016 to retake IS-held regions, managing to retake all havens, most notably the city of Mosul, the group’s previously proclaimed capital.
