15 Iraqis Killed in Attacks, Goverment Hashd Militias Continue Violations of Human Rights in the Northern Provinces May 27, 2019 Editor's Note: The following are just examples of news stories about the continuous Iraqi government war to subjugate the northern provinces, using the pretext of fighting ISIS, or responding to alleged ISIS attacks, which no longer exists, according to the announcements of the Iraqi government itself. Daily news stories can be accessed from the news sources listed below and others in the internet. Most likely, the available news stories are biased, as these do not include the two sides.
The following are news stories from the independent Iraqi Arabic news agency, Yaqein ( http://yaqein.net/ ): ***
*** The following are news stories from a pro-Iraqi government website (http://www.iraqinews.com/), which usually reports those who are killed by Iraqi government attacks as Islamic State fighters, implying no civilians were killed by bombing residential neighborhoods: *** Bomb attack kills five Iraqi civilians in Nineveh by Mohammed Ebraheem May 26, 2019, 6:25 pm Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) – At least 13 Iraqi civilians were killed and wounded Sunday in a bomb explosion in Nineveh province, Iraqi police said. “A booby-trapped vehicle exploded today, afternoon, near a marketplace in Rabia district in Mosul, leaving five people dead,” Glgamesh quoted the Security Media Cell as saying in a press statement. “The explosion left eight others wounded,” the statement read. The wounded have been rushed to hospital. Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014. The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Iraqi court sentences 3 French nationals to death for joining Islamic State by Mohammed Ebraheem May 26, 2019, 2:51 pm Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – An Iraqi court has sentenced three French nationals to death by hanging for joining the Islamic State group, a court official said. It is the first death sentence to be issued by an Iraqi court for French IS members in Iraq, the official told the press Sunday on condition of anonymity. The trio was captured by the Syrian Democratic Forces in Syria and handed over to Iraqi authorities in February. They were among at least 12 French nationals. All the verdicts are subject to appeal. Iraqi courts have sentenced many of Islamic State members, including a big number of foreign fighters, to death over joining the militant group. The exact number of detained militants is still unknown, however, it’s estimated to be at thousands. It’s also unclear how many members are likely to face death sentences. Human rights groups have always criticized collective death sentences issued by Iraqi courts, claiming that some detainees are tortured and threatened. Experts estimate that Iraq is holding 20,000 people in jail over suspected IS membership. There is no official figure, according to AFP. Despite losing the territory it controlled in Iraq between 2014 and 2017, the IS group still has dormant cells in several provinces.
