Congenital Deformities and Cancer in Iraq, as a Result of War Since the 2003 US invasin, Iraq has been hit with fire power more than 250 nuclear bombs which hit Japanese cities in World War II. This has led to thousands of congenital deformities of Iraqi babies and the spread of cancer all over the country. The Iraqi army killed on Sunday three (alleged) Islamic State suicide bombers wearing explosive belts in Sinjar district in Ninawah province, a security expert said.

Speaking to Almaalomah news website, Fadel Abu Reghif said that army troops surrounded three Islamic State suicide bombers, who planned to blow themselves off in Sinjar district in Ninawah.

“The IS militants were gunned down before they could detonate themselves,” Abu Reghif added.

Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence in November 2017 with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.

IS declared a self-styled “caliphate” in a third of Iraq and neighboring Syria in 2014. A government campaign, backed by a U.S.-led international coalition and paramilitary forces, was launched in 2016 to retake IS-held regions, managing to retake all havens, most notably the city of Mosul, the group’s previously proclaimed capital.

Iraqi paramilitary forces kill Islamic State suicide bomber in Diyala

Iraqi paramilitary forces killed on Sunday an (alleged) Islamic State suicide bomber, who was planning to carry out an attack in Makhoul hills in northeastern Diyala.

“Acting upon accurate intelligence reports, the pro-government troops of al-Hashd al-Shaabi launched a security operation to track down Islamic State remnants in Makhoul hills,” Almaalomah news website quoted the media service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi as saying in a press statement.

In January 2015, Iraqi forces announced liberation of Diyala province from Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

The province has seen months of fighting between Iraqi troops and IS militants especially in the Jalawla and Saadiyah areas in the province’s north and areas near the town of Muqdadiyah.

Saraya As-Salam militia kills 2 IS members south of Samarra

Saraya As-Salam militia announced, on Saturday, killing two (alleged) members of the Islamic State group, south of Samarra, Al Sumaria News reported.

The military media office of Saraya As-Salam pointed out in a statement, “Accurate intelligence information revealed that a number of the Islamic State members are stationed in Al-Motasem District, south of Samarra.”

The statement added, “The third brigade of Saraya As-Salam carried out an operation and attacked the enemies stronghold with mortar shells, then another security members attacked the area using light and heavy weapons, killing two ISIS members and inuring others.”

Furthermore, the statement indicated that Saraya As-Salam continues its operations to free all Iraqi territory and drive out all extremists of it.

It is noteworthy that Saraya As-Salam militia, also known as The Peace Brigades, was formed in June 2014 by Muqtada al-Sadr in response to the Islamic State’s territorial gains in Iraq. Saraya As-Salam is a splinter group of the Mahdi Army, which was created in 2003 to oppose the U.S. occupation of Iraq, but has since been largely dormant since 2007.

Iraqi soldier killed, two wounded in armed attack in northern Baghdad

An Iraqi soldier was killed and two others were wounded Tuesday in an armed attack by unidentified gunmen in northern Baghdad, a security source was quoted as saying.

Speaking to Al Madar News, the source said that “the Iraqi army launched a military operation in al-Tarmia district in northern Baghdad, during which the troops came under fire from unidentified gunmen.

“The shooting left a soldier dead and two others wounded,” added the source, without giving further details about the perpetrators of the attack.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

The surge in violence between armed groups and government forces has resulted in over five million internally displaced persons across Iraq and left more than 11 million in need of humanitarian assistance, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

U.S.-led airstrikes kill seven Islamic State militants in Syria’s Baghuz

Seven (alleged) Islamic State members were killed Sunday in an air raid by the U.S.-led international coalition in eastern Syria, an Iraqi military source said.

Speaking to Baghdad Today news website, the source said that the international coalition jet fighters targeted an underground hideout of Islamic State militants in the last jihadists’ enclave in Baghuz near the Iraqi border.

“The air raid left seven IS militants killed, including a prominent leader,” the source added.

Coupled with U.S.-led airstrikes, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) fighters have increasingly been attacking several IS positions inside Baghuz.

On Wednesday, the Kurdish-led SDF waged a major assault in the center of Baghuz, local military officials said.

“Now, we are carrying out strikes against IS. Hopefully, we will clear them from this last speck of territory soon,” an SDF fighter who did not want to be identified told VOA.

Located on the eastern bank of the Euphrates, Baghuz has been under attack for more than a month, with several hundred IS fighters still resisting SDF advances.

“Geography is a major factor in prolonging this fight and delaying our ultimate victory” in Baghuz, said Mustafa Bali, a spokesperson for SDF.

U.S.-led coalition warplanes kill two Islamic State militants in Kirkuk

Two (alleged) Islamic State militants were killed Tuesday in an airstrike by the U.S.-led international coalition warplanes in the Iraqi province of Kirkuk, a security source was quoted as saying.

“Jet fighters of the U.S.-led international coalition targeted a gathering of Islamic State terrorists near al-Rashad district, in southern Kirkuk,” the source told Watan News Agency.

“The airstrike left two IS militants dead,” the source said, adding that other IS terrorists fled the scene following the air raid.

The Islamic State group appeared on the international scene in 2014 when it seized large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria, declaring the establishment of an Islamic “caliphate” from Mosul city.

Later on, the group has become notorious for its brutality, including mass killings, abductions and beheadings, prompting the U.S. to lead an international coalition to destroy it.

Strike Summary
 
Between Feb. 24 - March 9, 2019, CJTF-OIR conducted 99 strikes consisting of 139 engagements against Daesh targets in Syria and Iraq.
 
In Syria, CJTF-OIR conducted 97 strikes consisting of 137 engagements, engaged 228 Daesh tactical units, and destroyed 71 tactical vehicles, 35 vehicle borne improvised explosive devices, 17 supply routes, 11 fighting positions, 10 weapons caches, eight staging areas, four command and control nodes, two tunnels, two heavy machine guns, one anti-aircraft gun, one fuel tanker, and one boat.
 
In Iraq, CJTF-OIR conducted two strikes consisting of two engagements.
 
Between Feb. 24 - March 9, 2019, CJTF-OIR detected 88 strikes from other actors that crossed the Euphrates River Valley. CJTF-OIR is committed to avoiding and in every case minimizing civilian casualties; CJTF-OIR calls on all other actors in the area to observe the same precautions.
 
This Coalition strike release contains all strikes conducted by fighter, attack, bomber, rotary-wing, or remotely piloted aircraft, rocket propelled artillery and ground-based tactical artillery.
