Iraqi troops & coalition warplanes kill 8 Iraqis west of Iraq

Security Media Cell announced, on Wednesday, that eight (alleged members of ISIS) were killed in two different incidents, west of the country.

In a press statement, the cell said that troops from the paramilitary forces in Haditha managed to kill four (alleged members of ISIS), in addition to destroying a vehicle, in al-Halkoum area, east of Akashat.

Furthermore, the statement added that the international coalition warplanes carried out an air strike, south of Senaysela Lake, near the Syrian border, killing four (alleged members of ISIS).

It is noteworthy that security forces and international coalition aviation manage to kill members of the Islamic State group in different area of the country.

It is noteworthy that in early 2014, the Islamic State group, with the assistance of local Sunni militia, launched a successful campaign to control the Anbar Province. Iraqi government launched many operations to drive out the IS from the province. The area was effectively recaptured by the end of 2017.

U.S. airstrike kills three (alleged members of ISIS) in Iraq

Three (alleged members of ISIS) were killed Wednesday in an airstrike by the U.S.-led international coalition warplanes, Iraqi authorities said.

“Acting on precise information from the Baghdad Information Command, the US.-led international coalition launched an airstrike targeting several (alleged members of ISIS), west of al Munāyif mountain in Nineveh,” Alghad Press quoted the Security Media Cell as saying in a press statement.

Three Islamic State (alleged members of ISIS) were killed in the air raid, the statement read.

Iraqi pro-gov’t forces kill four Islamic State terrorists in Nineveh

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) –

An Iraqi paramilitary force said on Wednesday that its fighters killed four (alleged members of ISIS) group in Nineveh province.

“A force of the 53rd and 40th brigades of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) killed four (alleged) Islamic State militants during a preemptive operation in the Sheikh Ibrahim mountain range, south of Tal Afar,” Iraqi website Alghad Press quoted the paramilitary force as saying in a press statement.

Two hotbeds of the Islamic State group were also destroyed in the operation, the statement read.

Former Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi announced in August 2017 that Nineveh province was fully liberated from Islamic State after the district of Tal Afar was recaptured.

The announcement came after the defeat of the jihadist group in the town of Ayadiya, where the militants had fled to from Tal Afar.

Syria hands over 100 Islamic State fighters to Iraq, says mayor

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) –

Iraq has received 100 (alleged members of ISIS), including senior leaders, from Syria, an Iraqi mayor said seemingly under an agreement to hand over a total of 502 fighters.

“The Syrian side has handed the Jazeerah Operations Command a total of 100 Islamic State elements, who were arrested by the Syrian army near the borderline with Iraq,” the independent news website of Almaalomah quoted the mayor of Iraqi border town Al-Qaim, Ahmed al-Mahallawi, as saying on Tuesday.

They "were moved to the Ain Assad airbase in al-Baghdadi district, west of Anbar, for interrogation and judicial action,” al-Mahalawi said, adding that there were senior leaders among the arrestees.

Around 800 of foreign fighters who joined Islamic State, including many Iraqis, are being held in Syria by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces, the group said. More than 2,000 family members are also in camps, with dozens more arriving each day.

The militant group still poses a threat in Iraq and some western officials believe that the group’s leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, may still be hiding there.

Iraqi intelligence kill two Islamic State jihadists in Mosul

Iraqi military intelligence forces killed on Monday two (alleged members of ISIS) during a military operation in Mosul city.

In a press statement, the Iraqi Military Intelligence Directorate said that its troops have stormed a hotbed of the Islamic State terrorist group in al Baaj district, west of Mosul.

The troops killed two (alleged members of ISIS) and found two motorbikes, two firearms and an explosive belt inside the pair’s hotbed.

The operation was launched based on intelligence reports, the statement read.

Former Iraqi prime minister Haider al-Abadi announced in July 2017 liberation of the second largest Iraqi city of Mosul from IS militants, who had captured it in 2014. More than 25,000 militants were killed throughout the campaign, which started in October 2016.

The campaign was backed by paramilitary troops and a U.S.-led international coalition.

Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence in Iraq in November 2017 with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.

Bomb attack wounds two Iraqi soldiers in Diyala province

Two Iraqi soldiers were wounded Monday in a bomb attack in the eastern province of Diyala, a security source was quoted as saying.

Speaking to Iraqi website Alghad Press, the source said that a roadside bomb targeted an army patrol at al-Nada village in Balad Ruz district, Diyala, leaving two soldiers wounded.

“The injured soldiers were moved to hospital for treatment,” the source said, adding that the blast site was sealed off and a probe was launched to identify perpetrators of the bomb attack.

Turkey says to continue military operations against PKK in Iraq

The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Sunday summoned Acting Iraqi Ambassador in Ankara Essam Mohammad to inform him that Turkey would continue its operations against the PKK terrorists in northern Iraq.

The charge d’affaires of the Iraqi embassy in Ankara had been informed that the statement issued by the Iraqi side Saturday on allegations of civilian casualties during Turkey’s operations against the PKK was not acceptable, spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry Hami Aksoy said.

The spokesman pointed out that the Iraqi Kurdistan authorities held the PKK organization responsible for the operation carried out within the regions of the territory, while the federal government in Baghdad neglected this matter.

The federal government’s statement does not reflect positive momentum in relations between the two countries through high-level visits in the recent period, Aksoy said.

“Turkey respects the sovereignty of Iraq, so Baghdad should not allow the presence of terrorists on its territory,” the statement concluded.

Iraqi army kills two (alleged members of ISIS) on border with Syria

The Iraqi Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that its troops killed two (alleged members of ISIS) during a military operation on the country’s border with Syria.

The operation was launched after hearing the sound of a large explosion, the ministry said in a statement, adding that the two (alleged members of ISIS) tried to escape the scene but the troops managed to kill them.

According to the statement, the troops also found bodies of three (alleged) Islamic State suicide bombers wearing explosive belts at the scene.

Unidentified gunmen kill Iraqi soldier in Diyala province

An Iraqi soldier was killed on Saturday night when armed men launched an attack on a security checkpoint in the eastern province of Diyala, a security source was quoted saying.

“A security checkpoint came under attack by unidentified gunmen near the Hussein al-Hamadi village, some 15 km southwest of Baqubah, leaving a solider dead,” the source told the Baghdad Today news website on Sunday.

“The security forces launched a probe into the incident and a manhunt was launched for the culprits,” the source added.

In January 2015, Iraqi forces announced liberation of Diyala province from Islamic State extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

The province has seen months of fighting between Iraqi troops and IS militants especially in the Jalawla and Saadiyah areas in the province’s north and areas near the town of Muqdadiyah.
