2019 was the worst year for the Iraqi refugees, who are displaced because of war inside their own country, according to a UN report. This was due to declining UN and Iraqi assistance for them, particularly in the refugee campls surrounding the city of Mosul.  Security Media Cell announced, on Saturday, that four (alleged members of ISIS) were killed by an air strike carried out by the US-led international coalition warplanes in Nineveh Province.

The cell said in a brief statement that based on accurate information, the warplanes of the international coalition managed to kill 4 (alleged members of ISIS), south of al-Manayef Village, in Nineveh Province.

Early last week, the Security Media Cell announced that coalition warplanes killed 16 terrorists in Wadi Kasb, in Nineveh Province.

It is noteworthy that Nineveh suffered attacks by the Islamic State group, with Mosul being captured in June 2014 and an estimated 500,000 refugees fleeing the area, and many places of worship and historic ruins and monuments destroyed. A large-scale offensive to retake the city, dubbed Operation “We Are Coming, Nineveh” in October 2016.

Iraqi security operation launched to clear Diyala region from IS

 Iraqi security forces launched on Friday an operation to clear areas in northeastern Diyala from Islamic State cells, local media reported days after authorities declared efforts to clear regions from the province westwards to the borders with Syria.

The Popular Mobilization Forces said in a statement that troops, backed by the Iraqi army and counter-terrorism units, launched an operation to purge Um Weis, northeast of Diyala, having detected an activity by Islamic State terrorists.

Iraq announced late 2017 the recapture of all areas under IS control, but security forces continue to hunt for remnant cells of the group at desert areas.

Iraqi army kills four (alleged members of ISIS) on Syrian border

The Iraqi army said on Tuesday that its warplanes killed four (alleged members of ISIS) and destroyed two armored vehicles in an airstrike on the country’s border with Syria.

“The Iraqi Air Force targeted a gathering of (alleged) Islamic State militants in the a desert region of al-Jazirah, leaving four militants dead and two armored vehicles destroyed,” the Arabic-language Almaalomah news website quoted the Security Media Cell as saying in a press statement.

The Joint Operations Command had launched the “Victory Will” operation on Sunday morning to pursue Islamic State remnants, who are still at large on the country’s vast border with Syria, mainly in Nineveh, Salahuddin and Anbar provinces.

The Islamic State group appeared on the international scene in 2014 when it seized large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria, declaring the establishment of an Islamic “caliphate” from Mosul city.

Later on, the group has become notorious for its brutality, including mass killings, abductions and beheadings, prompting the U.S. to lead an international coalition to destroy it.

The jihadist group had seized large swathes of Syria and Iraq in 2014, when it proclaimed a “caliphate” and imposed its rule over some 10 million people.

Iraqi paramilitary forces destroy (an alleged) Islamic State camp in Nineveh

An Iraqi pro-government force said on Tuesday that its personnel destroyed an (alleged) Islamic State camp, housing explosive devices and weapons in Nineveh province.

In a press statement carried by the privately-owned Algahd Press website, the Popular Mobilization Forces said that the camp was found during a military operation near a lake in southwestern Nineveh.

The forces also found military uniforms, medical equipment and electronic devices inside the camp, the statement read.

Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence in November 2017 with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.

IS declared a self-styled “caliphate” in a third of Iraq and neighboring Syria in 2014. A government campaign, backed by a U.S.-led international coalition and paramilitary forces, was launched in 2016 to retake IS-held regions, managing to retake all havens, most notably the city of Mosul, the group’s previously proclaimed capital.

Despite the group’s crushing defeat at its main havens across Iraq, Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks against troops with security reports warning that the militant group still poses a threat against stability in the country.

Iraqi warplanes kill three (alleged members of ISIS) in Nineveh

Iraqi warplanes killed on Monday three (alleged members of ISIS) group during a military operation in Nineveh province, the Security Media Cell announced.

In a statement carried by the privately-owned Algahd Press website, the Security Media Cell said that the three IS militants were in a car when an airstrike by the Iraqi Air Force targeted them in Nineveh province.

Meanwhile, the paramilitary Popular Mobilization Forces seized a vehicle that was used by the (alleged) Islamic State militants near a valley in Nineveh, the statement read.

In al-Jazeera region, the Security Media Cell said that its forces managed to destroy two Islamic State terrorist hotbeds and two explosive charges.

An Iraqi paramilitary force said on Sunday that its personnel killed two (alleged members of ISIS) during a military operation in Nineveh province.

In a press statement carried by Al Sumaria News TV channel, the pro-government Popular Mobilization Forces said its fighters “killed two (alleged members of ISIS) group” in al-Ba’aj district in Nineveh province as part of a wide-scale military operation, which was launched earlier in the day on the country’s border with Syria.
