13,449 students in school age no longer attending schools in Ninawa alone, as a result of the destruction of school during the Iraqi government and US-led coalition war on the northern provinces. Many of these children have become victims to criminals and militants. Refugee camps also suffer from a shortage in elementary schools and the remaining schools require documents which families cannot provide as a result of the destruction of their home. All of this resulted in continuous dropping out of school among Iraqi children in the beleaguered northern provinces. حقوق الإنسان تحذر من تسرب الأطفال من المدارس 28 سبتمبر 2018 ، يقين حذرت  المفوضية العليا لحقوق الإنسان ، من  خطورة ظاهرة التسرب من المدارس ، مضيفةً إنها قد تؤدي الى الإستغلال غير المشروع للأطفال الذين يقعون ضحايا للمجرمين والجماعات المسلحة . وقال عضو المفوضية “زيدان خلف  العطواني” أن المدن التي تم إستعادتها من قبضة “التنظيم” لاتزال بحاجة الى جهود إستثنائية من قبل المؤسسات الحكومية والمنظمات الدولية والمحلية، لإعمار المدارس المتضررة بفعل المسلحين والعمليات الحربية ،وتجهيزها بالمستلزمات الكافية “. واضاف  العطواني :” أن  عدد المدارس الإبتدائية المتضررة في محافظة نينوى وحدها بلغ 76  مدرسة ، فيما بلغ عدد المدارس التي تعاني من الدوام المزدوج 700  مدرسة إبتدائية و255  مدرسة ثانوية “. وأوضح ” أن  مخيمات النزوح في العراق مازالت تعاني من نقص المدارس الإبتدائية ، الأمر الذي أدى الى إرتفاع نسب التسرب من المدارس في المحافظة ، إذ بلغ عدد التلاميذ المتسربين في محافظة نينوى (13449) تلميذاً “. ولفت العطواني إلى،  وجود عقبات كثيرة تحول دون حصول الأطفال على حقهم في التعليم ، منها نقص المستمسكات الثبوتية لهم ، مطالباً الجهات ذات العلاقة بالإسراع في إيجاد الحلول الناجعة، لتذليل جميع العقبات وتطبيق التعليم الإلزامي إبتداء من العام الدراسي الحالي ، لتفويت الفرص على الجماعات المسلحة في إستغلال الأطفال بأعمال غير مشروعة وخارجة عن القانون”.

Three policemen killed, injured in two bomb blasts south of Kirkuk

A policeman was killed, while two others were injured in two bomb blasts, southwest of Kirkuk, a security source from the province said on Thursday.

Speaking to AlSumaria News, the source said “a bomb went off on al-Riyad-Hawija road, southwest of Kirkuk, leaving a policeman killed.”

Moreover, “another bomb exploded, west of Daquq town, south of the province, leaving two policemen injured,” the source, who preferred anonymity, added.

Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.

A total of 90 Iraqi civilians were killed, while 117 others were injured due to acts of violence and terrorism during the month of August, according to the monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

The worst affected province was Baghdad with 77 civilian casualties (24 killed and 53 injured.) Then comes Nineveh with 39 casualties (29 killed and 10 injured). Anbar came in the third place with 32 casualties (6 killed and 26 injured).

In December, the Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014.

18 Islamic State members killed in operation, east of Ninawah

The Iraqi Federal Police have announced killing 18 Islamic State members in an operation, east of Ninawah.

A statement by the command, issued on Thursday, said troops “carried out an operation in Qurret Goukh mountains in search for remnants of Islamic State.”

The operation, according to the statement, “left 18 militants killed and explosives seized.”

Last week, eight Islamic State members were arrested in districts of al-Zahraa, Sumar and al-Qadisiya, west of Mosul. Four soldiers of the Iraqi army were killed in confrontations with Islamic State members, northwest of Mosul. Moreover, bodies of three people were found inside a house in Mosul’s Old city, one week after being kidnapped.

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.

Commander survives assassination attempt, three personnel wounded in Salahuddin

A commander with the pro-government paramilitary troops has survived an assassination attempt, while three of his guards were wounded in Salahuddin province.

A statement from the office of Khedr al-Matrouhi, the commander, said “a bomb, placed on the side of the road in Mutaibija region in Salahuddin, targeted the procession of the commander of 21st brigade of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces), while being there for an operation.”

The explosion, according to the statement, “left three guards of al-Matrouhi wounded.”

15 Islamic State members, who exploded security checkpoint, killed in Anbar

Fifteen Islamic State members, who exploded a security checkpoint in west of Anbar, have been killed, a commander said on Wednesday.

In a statement, Maj. Gen. Qassem Saleh, commander of Jazeera Operations, said “the terrorist group, which exploded a vehicle in a security checkpoint in Qaim town, west of Anbar, and left many victims killed.”

The operation, according to Saleh, “was carried out in the depth of desert, where the militants were hiding.”

All the 15 militants were killed, he added.

On Monday, five Islamic State members were killed in a security campaign in desert regions, in Wadi Houran, west of Anbar.

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.

Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve and its partners continue to pursue the lasting defeat of ISIS in designated parts of Iraq and Syria.
 
Operation Roundup, which began May 1 for the defeat of ISIS in the Middle Euphrates River Valley and Iraqi-Syrian border region, has continued to gain ground and remove terrorists from the battlefield through offensive operations coupled with precision Coalition strike support.
 
Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve and its partner forces' operations are exerting pressure on ISIS senior leaders and associates, as well as degrading, disrupting and dismantling ISIS organizational structures throughout Iraq and Syria.
 
Operation Roundup will continue to target ISIS remnants as the Coalition remains committed to the lasting defeat of ISIS to increase peace and stability in the region, and to protect all our homelands from ISIS's terrorist threat.
 
Weekly Strike Summary
 
Between September 17 and September 23, Coalition military forces conducted 78 strikes consisting of 114 engagements in Iraq and Syria.
 
On September 23 in Syria, Coalition military forces conducted 13 strikes consisting of 17 engagements against ISIS targets.
