Iraqi government forces and militias have started a wide military operation in the Anbar and Salhuddin Provinces, on Monday, November 12, 2018. 13 people killed, injured in an explosion near restaurant, west of Mosul

13 people were killed and injured as a booby-trapped vehicle exploded, west of Mosul, the Iraqi Security Media Center has said.

In a statement, the center said, “the attack carried out through a booby-trapped vehicle near a restaurant in west of Mosul.”

The attack, according to the statement, “left two people killed and 11 others injured.”

Last week, an Iraqi soldier was killed, while seven others were injured in a bomb blast targeting a military patrol, west of Mosul.

Violence left 174 Iraqis dead and wounded throughout the month of October, according to a monthly toll released by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).

In December, the former Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced gaining control on all the territories that were captured by Islamic State, since 2014. However, Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks across Iraq against troops. Security reports indicate that the militant group still poses threat against stability in the country. The group still has dormant cells, through which it carries out attacks, across Iraq like it used to do before 2014.

Thousands of Islamic State militants as well as Iraqi civilians were killed since the government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition was launched in October 2016.

Islamic State member, disguised in woman clothes, killed, north of Salahuddin

The pro-government paramilitary troops have killed an Islamic State member, north of Salahuddin, a security source from the province said on Thursday.

“Troops of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) managed, today, to kill an Islamic State member near al-Siniya region, north of Salahuddin,” the source told Almaalomah website.

The militant, according to the source, “was disguising in a outfits of a woman and was trying to reach to other regions to carry out terrorist operations.”

PMFs “were able to kill the militant before he runs away,” the source added.

Last week, eleven Islamic State members were killed in a security operation, in Wadi al-Therthar region, northwest of the province.

Six Islamic State members killed in Iraqi army shelling, west of Anbar

Six Islamic State members, including two leaders, were killed in an airstrike that targeted a convoy for the group, west of Anbar, a security source said on Thursday.

Speaking to Almaalomah website, the source said “the army jets shelled a convoy for Islamic State once it arrived in Rutba, west of Anbar, which left six militants, including two leaders, killed.”

The shelling, according to the source, “destroyed the militants’ vehicles completely, depending on intelligence information.”

The army “intensified its shelling against Islamic State convoys coming from Syria toward Iraq,” he added.

On Wednesday, a security source was quoted saying that common borders between Iraq and Syria is completely secured and that Iraq has no intentions to carry out any military operations in Syria, however, they received orders to respond to any terrorist attack.

On Saturday, a senior officer from Jazeera Operations Command said the army’s artillery bombarded Islamic State pockets 10 kilometers in the depth of Syrian lands.

12 Islamic State members killed in airstrike on Iraqi border area

Twelve members of Islamic State were killed Wednesday in an airstrike on a border area between Diyala and Salahuddin provinces, a security source said.

“Iraqi jet fighters have shortly targeted a group of Islamic State militants in al-Maita basin on the border between the provinces of Diyala and Salahuddin,” the source told Mawazin News.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, added that the air raid left 12 IS members dead and five others trapped.

“A security force has gone on a mission to eliminate the remaining IS terrorists,” the source added.

Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence last year with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.

IS declared a self-styled “caliphate” in a third of Iraq and neighboring Syria in 2014. A government campaign, backed by a U.S.-led international coalition and paramilitary forces, was launched in 2016 to retake IS-held regions, managing to retake all havens, most notably the city of Mosul, the group’s previously proclaimed capital.

Despite the group’s crushing defeat at its main havens across Iraq, Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks against troops with security reports warning that the militant group still poses a threat against stability in the country.

Three Islamic State members killed in security operation in Diyala regions

Three militants were killed in a security operation carried out in several regions across Diyala, the Iraqi Interior Ministry’s Security Media Center said on Wednesday.

“Joint troops from Diyala Operations Command carried out an operation in several regions including al-Oyoun village, which left three militants killed there,” Brig. Gen. Yahia Rasool, spokesperson of the center, said.

“This came after confrontations with the militants, when of the conscripts was injured,” he added.

On Tuesday, a local official was quoted as saying that three Islamic State leaders were killed during fierce clashes with Iraqi security forces in northeastern Tikrit, Diyala.

SOUTHWEST ASIA – Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve and its partners continue to pursue the lasting defeat of ISIS in designated parts of Iraq and Syria.
 
Operation Roundup, which began May 1 for the defeat of ISIS in the Middle Euphrates River Valley and Iraqi- Syrian border region, has continued to gain ground through offensive operations coupled with precision Coalition strike support.
 
Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Inherent Resolve and its partner forces' operations are exerting pressure on ISIS senior leaders and associates, as well as degrading, disrupting and dismantling ISIS organizational structures throughout Iraq and Syria.
 
Operation Roundup will continue to target ISIS remnants as the coalition remains committed to the lasting defeat of ISIS to increase peace and stability in the region, and to protect all our homelands from ISIS's terrorist threat.
 
Weekly Strike Summary
 
Between Oct. 28 and Nov 3, CJTF-OIR coalition military forces conducted 100 strikes consisting of 161 engagements in Syria.

There were no reported strikes conducted in Iraq on Oct. 28, 2018.
