US Senate blocks resolution to end military involvement in Yemen conflict

The United States Senate late Tuesday blocked a war powers resolution that would cut US military involvement in the conflict in Yemen. 
 
By a vote of 55 to 44, senators voted against a procedural motion that would have advanced a resolution to withdraw US armed forces from a conflict. 
 
The resolution to end US support for the Yemen conflict sought to invoke the 1973 War Powers Resolution, which gives Congress the authority to overrule the president and withdraw military aid within 30 days if it decides a conflict is unauthorized. 
 
Supporters argued against the ongoing US military assistance to Saudi Arabia and other countries in the ongoing conflict with the Houthi group in Yemen, which they said was contributing to one of the worst humanitarian crisis in the world.
 
The Trump administration and Republican Senate leaders opposed the motion, arguing that the logistical support and mid-air refueling support services the US military is carrying out did not require congressional approval. 
 
They argued that US involvement was needed to counter Iran's malign influence in the region. Ahead of the vote, US Defense Secretary James Mattis traveled to the Capitol to lobby senators to block the resolution. 
 
It comes on the same day as the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud meeting with President Donald Trump in Washington for bilateral talks on regional security issues and strategic objectives.

Intl. prohibited cluster bomb kills a civilian in Saada Governorate

A citizen was killed on Saturday after an international banned cluster bomb dropped by the Saudi-led coalition on the northern governorate of Saada exploded. 

An innocent civilian lost his life in Al-Sheikh region based in the border district of Monabeh after one of the remnants of the US-backed coalition warplanes detonated, local source told YemenExtra.

It is noteworthy that dozens of citizens from the governorate of Saada have been victims of cluster bombs conducted by the Saudi-led coalition on the districts of Saada for three years, mostly women and children.

Fresh Saudi crime leaves six killed in Hudayda, including children

Six citizens, including children, were killed and others injured Saturday in raids conducted by the Saudi-led coalition on the coastal governorate of Hudayda, western Yemen.

Six innocent civilians, among them are children, lost their lives while others sustained various wounds following four airstrikes that targeted a farm in Al-Husaynia region based in Bait Al-Faqih district, Hudayda Governorate.

Just yesterday Friday, a citizen and his son were killed following a raid that struck their car on the main road in Al-Tohayta region in Hudayda Governorate.

This comes in the context of the crimes committed by the Saudi-led coalition against citizens in various Yemeni governorates over three years of brutal war amid international silence and neglect.

2,641 Yemeni educational establishments targeted by Saudi-led coalition in three years

The Yemeni Ministry of Education organized a photo exhibition in Sana’a on Saturday to mark three years of resistance in the face of the Saudi-led coalition.

Moreover, the Ministry confirmed that the total targeted educational facilities in various governorates since the beginning of the Saudi-led war amounted to 2641.

It also explained that the total educational facilities destroyed by direct raids were 293 while 2348 were partially destroyed.

President Trump ramps up US drone strike program – ten thousands civilians killed

Human’s rights group Reprieve have published damning new information about the United States’ drone assassination program under President Trump.

Trump has overseen a drastic rise in the number of predator drone strikes in Afghanistan, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan, none of which are currently at war with the US.

In the seven months of the Trump administration, more people have killed as a result of drone strikes .

During Obama’s era, according this leaked 2013 Justice Department memo, approximately 2300-3400 people were killed in drone strikes. A leaked government memo about US drone attacks from that time estimated that 90 percent of those killed in the targeted attacks were not the intended targets and in many instances were in fact women and children.  Meanwhile, based on the latest estimates detailed here, in the seven months following Trump’s inauguration coalition airstrikes were estimated to have killed between 2800-4500 civilians.

Notably,Saudi-led coalition , backed by US, have claimed around 14,000 civilian Yemenis , mostly women and childern, since it started its campaign since Mar 26, 2016 agains Yemen.

Three years of bombardment by Saudi-led coalition have killed more than 35,415 victims of men, women and children and destroyed life’s  basics  in Yemen that classifies the woman as “mother of patience, woman of sorrow and survival cause”.

According to official statistics, 13,603 people were killed, including more than 2,000 dead and 2,233 wounded, women, who are afraid of their wounds and illness that would make them unable to serve their families .

The Yemeni News Agency (Saba) reported on the steadfastness of Yemeni woman that represents in the population distribution in Yemen 49.6% of the total population of 198826 according to the population projection for 2011 , in which the males represent 50.4% of the total population .

A stand by Yemeni women against Saudi-led coalition’s war

The Yemeni woman influenced her family with her steadfastness in the face of the Saudi-led coalition after she have borne the burdens of living to provide a loaf as Yemen rolled from the classification of poor countries to the poorest countries due to  destroying its infrastructure .

Secure the dream …!

Amal’s mother started making cake and sweats , then selling them in any store as her son sold some on the street to afford his study’s fees .The mother did her best to to explain her idea that she did her father’s help wasn’t enough to  the end of the month because her husband suffers from a psychiatric illness , so she insisted to invest her skill in making sweets to support her five children, especially her eldest daughter who needed a double expense for the price of a lieutenant and the university textbooks , but her career provides her with a daily income between 1000 and 2000 riyals, which is not enough but better than nothing .

The ideas of small projects are crowded in social networking sites that ranged from the opportunities of marketing sales of cosmetics and accessories to the courses of makeup and hairdressing to the opportunities of self-development and the search for quick profit projects to open doors of hope for the Yemeni woman.

The profit was what  forced (Randa) to communicate with all her friends to establish a small project that cost  more than (60 thousand riyals)  because its  profit was secure and daily to support her family after due to the absence of the head of the family suddenly and her failure to invest the idea of making the pastry and sweets after she enrolled in training course that cost 15 thousand riyals , whereas she  justified its failure to sell desserts that (easy projects are better than projects of losses ).

The Saudi-led coalition’s airstrikes and blockade have been strained the Yemeni economy, which is described as “deteriorating”. Yemen is classified as one of the poorest countries in the world, whose population lives on less than a dollar a day, according to the United Nations Development Report of international poverty , above all poverty reached more than 18 million Yemenis who live under the poverty line and fight hunger because  of the Saudi-led coalition’s war against Yemen and surrounded Yemen by air, land and sea, followed by Afghanistan and the Central African Republic.

According to the Institute of Legatum in London on the indicators of prosperity , poverty , hunger and misery , Yemen is on the top of  the list of 19 countries (the most miserable) and the poor Yemenis’ rate raised  to 80%  due to the war .

 According to a World Bank report damages which caused the infrastructure by the coalition’s war estimated between 4 and 5 billion dollars, pointing out that the humanitarian needs exceeded one billion dollars as a result of the continued Saudi-led coalition’s air strikes and blockade.

Attack of poverty ..

The Yemeni woman has borne the burden of the destruction and the siege of Saudi – led coalition’s airstrikes and blockade and has been afraid of the attack of  poverty on her family which forced the working woman to find any job , says Mrs. Ahlam, a mathematics’ teacher .”She turned to find a suitable job after the deterioration of the educational process and had to volunteer in one of the Charitable organizations that distribute humanitarian aid in exchange for a transportation allowance (and a volunteer certificate) that may help her to work in any company that requires experience.” 

Human Rights Watch, which defends human rights in 99 countries around the world, says that the war on Yemen is going on relentlessly after the economic deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Yemen has been forgotten , when  the blockade imposed by the Saudi-led coalition on imports aggravate the difficult humanitarian situation, delay the transfer of fuel tankers, close important ports and prevent goods from entering sea ports.

The war produced the greatest humanitarian disaster made by “humans” in a country far from the world’s concerns, it added. While, the UNICEF said that 80% of Yemeni families were forced to sell their possessions to afford daily food, whereas most of the families resort to borrow the food’s expense every day.ا

A Jewelry’s store’s owner confirmed that the sale of gold is “active” as women flock daily to sell their jewelry whatever the price and that sometimes he used to advise women not to sell her gold in light of the unstable exchange rate of the dollar against the riyal, where it is expected that the price of one gram of gold, by the end of this year, will worth thirty thousand riyals, which means a great loss for women who sold their gold to achieve temporary financially  stability was certain.

Amal confirms that she sold all her possessions to afford her children’s food, rent and other basics that forced her to sell to get her unemployed husband rid of those who lent him money earlier, so that they would stop chasing him “

While Elham’s mother sold all her gold in search of a small project but did not succeed in achieving her hope due to the weakness of the purchasing power of the people who were enough with buying the basics , especially that her project was an entertainment project , a place for the Games (Plastation) ,which was visited by a small number of people and many children who were satisfied with contemplating the championships of the big players in the screens of imaginary conflict..

Static steadiness ..

Abdul-Hakim Al-Azraq described to Saba the steadfastness of the woman as “legendary”, whereas she represented a strong bond and support for her partner in this difficult stage and began her steadfastness first with her unlimited patience over the harsh conditions experienced by her partner and abandoning many of the requirements. ;In addition, she sold everything in order to meet some of the needs and requirements of the family.

He also pointed to the insistence of the wife to learn some professions and crafts, income-generating ,to provide some of the basic requirements from the income of sewing and embroidery of women’s fabrics and the making of perfumes  and cosmetics.

Above all, he feels sad when he sees his partner suffering and sharing responsibility without any complaint.

Ahmed Bad Whelan explains that the partnership between men and women is based on the divine mandate, without decreasing the value of one of them. The decline in the view of some men in the amount of partnership and its importance is the result of shortcomings that must be avoided.

The woman deserves sanctity, respect and prestige because she is one of the partners, and the wife should be respected ,and her right should be recognized in  partnership without prejudice, considering that the return now to the talk of partnership and sharing concerns is back to the nature of the original life on which humanity was founded since the creation ,and it isn’t the result of evolution as claimed by defenders of women’s rights.

The attempts of the woman in assistance are matched by a concerted effort from her partner to seek a job that relieves him of the society’s blame – unemployed- so he looked for a job’s opportunity to try to travel and use his practical experience as an engineer. Then, he got ready to travel , but  the first station was in (Sayoon) , where he got surprised that the trip was postponed two weeks and his vacation would end within a week ,so he tried to travel through any outlet, but his journey was faltered ,and his dreams were collapsed ,too, as a result he suffered from a heart attack , so he was sent to the hospital ; therfore, his wife ignored the promises of the dream and shortened them to wishes of her husband’s recovery .

Death Race …!

Patience betrayed another woman whose husband fell due to a heart attack , that put him in the hospital bed , where his wife stayed with him  ,remembering sweet and bitter memories of thirty years of marriage , but feeling afraid  of losing him if he falls dead and leaves her fighting waves of poverty with her sons and daughters .There, she spent her night next to her husband  , but in the morning, death kidnapped her before her sick husband to leave him the mission alone.

The steadfastness of the woman (the compassionate mother, the conscientious wife, the patient sister and the obedient daughter) is matched by a worthy gratitude from the partner (husband, brother and etc..) for her sincere and dedicated role in confronting the coalition’s airstrikes and blockade .Raba’a Walid AL-Yemeni decided that if the financial situation gets better and the war ends, he  will reward his wife with a long-term tourist trip to Egypt .

While another one promised his wife of giving her back her gold  butbetter and heavier than the former , in addition to geting her gold of his name’s letters to wear it in occasions to prove her husband’s loyalty to her friends.

Furthermore, a lovely husband rewarded his wife when he got money from a special job and bought her her wedding ring (the wedding ring), which she sold it due to financial distress and did not forget to write his name and the date of engagement , but  after three months he was forced to sell the ring again and again to the same person who kept their names because of sculpturing them many times.

The horrors of the economic situation affected the men, invaded early aging, painted provocative wrinkles on the faces of women, and did not even relieve the children of the harshness of the war that drove them to keep the chants and repeating the  chanting (Sanaa is  far away , but Riyadh is closer ) in case of challenging …
