Hundreds of Syrians Killed by Daily Russian-Regime Air Strikes March 19, 2018 Editor's Note: The following news stories are just examples of the daily horrors of war in Syria. Readers can find more detailed daily news stories at the sources below as well as many other sources in the internet.
The following are news stories from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) website (http://www.syriahr.com/en/): *** 115 were killed yesterday including 7 members of the regime forces and militiamen loyal to them and 51 civilians SOHR, 18/03/2018 In Rif Dimashq Province 37 citizens were killed, they are: a woman and 2 children of one family, 4 children (two of them of one family) were killed in aerial bombardment on Ein Tarma town, and 30 citizens were killed in raids by warplanes on areas in Zamalka city. In Idlib Province 4 citizens were killed, they are: a child boy, a child girl and 2 women, in bombing on areas in Maarrat Al-Nu’man city in the southern countryside of Idlib. In Daraa Province, a fighter of an Islamic faction was killed in an IED explosion that targeted a car belongs to an Islamic brigade in the city. And the SOHR also documented 289 including 43 children and 28 women, the number of civilians of the al-Kurds, Arabs and Armenians, who were killed in the Turkish aerial, artillery and missile shelling, and in executions against several citizens in Afrin area since the 20th of January 2018, also the shelling injured hundreds of citizens with varying severity. And 7 members of the regime forces and their allied militiamen were killed as a result of the shelling and clashes with the “Islamic State” organization and the factions. At least 4 fighters of the “Islamic State” organization and the factions of non-Syrian nationalities were killed in clashes and shelling of warplanes and helicopters and shelling on their areas of presence. About 40 members of the “Olive Branch” Factions were killed and injured in a mine explosion on the first day of their control of Afrin with the Turkish forces, and the looting operations continue in the city SOHR, 18/03/2018 Aleppo Province, The Syrian Observatory for human rights: the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the continuation of looting and theft by members of the Turkish-led “Olive Branch” Operation Forces for the property of citizens, of shops, houses and cars in addition to the contents of the political and military headquarters, and the Syrian Observatory learned that clashes took place between groups that carried out the loots against other groups who rejected the loot, but no information until the moment about casualties, while 13 fighters at least were killed and more than 25 were wounded of the Syrian Forces loyal to the Turkish Forces; as a result of mines explosions inside Afrin city during their sweep operations, after fully controlling it on Sunday the 18th of March 2018. The Syrian Observatory published hours ago that the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights learned from a number of reliable sources that the members of the forces of the “Olive Branch” Operation led by Turkey, and after they imposed their full control over Afrin city today, the 18th of March 2018, started to loot the property of citizens and the contents of the political and military headquarters and to loot machineries, vehicles and shops in the city, which used to be controlled by the Kurdish forces before they withdrew from it, after the military operation started on the 20th of January 2018, in a grand military operation launched by the Turkish forces, through which they managed to impose their control over the entire area of Afrin with its townships and its villages reaching to Afrin city today. Also 16 citizens including 2 pregnant women were killed as a result of a Turkish shelling on Afrin hospital, which is the only hospital in the city, causing a massacre in the hospital and its surroundings, while 27 citizens including 7 children were killed in shelling by warplanes and Turkish Forces on Afrin city and on the displaced people during their fleeing from the city. While it rose to 429, the number of fighters of the YPG and the Self-Defense forces who were killed in the shelling and clashes in Afrin countryside, while it rose to 447 including 71 soldiers of the Turkish forces, the number of the members and fighters of the Turkish forces and the factions who were killed in the clashes against the Kurdish Units in Afrin area since the start of Operation “Olive Branch”. And 10 members of the regime forces and their allied militiamen were killed as a result of the shelling and clashes with the “Islamic State” organization and the factions. After the Russian and regime forces killed more than 1400 citizens during a month and their control over about 83% of the Eastern Ghouta… calm prevails the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus waiting for the results of negotiations 18/03/2018 Rif Dimashq Province – The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights: the displacement of citizens from the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus is continuing, where the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitored the displacement of thousands of citizens since today morning, the 18th of March 2018, after more than 50 thousand citizens have displaced, during the past 72 hours, from the south-western pocket of the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus, controlled by Al-Rahman Corps, and the displacement of the citizens today. This was coincided with calm prevailing the Eastern Ghouta intervened by overflights of warplanes over the area and the fall of shells on areas in Ein Tarma town, and this calm, according to information obtained by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, comes amid anticipations for announcing the agreement supposed to be reached between Al-Rahman Corps and the Russian side, to bring the fighters of Al-Rahman Corps out to the Syrian North, where Al-Rahman Corps still controls Arbin, Zamalka, Ein Tarma and parts of Jobar neighborhood. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has documented thousands of casualties and wounded, in the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus since the escalation started on the 18th of February 2018, until today the 18th of March 2018, where the Syrian Observatory documented the death of more than 1401 Syrian civilians whose death was documented by the Syrian Observatory in the Eastern Ghouta, including 276 children and 174 women, who have been killed since the 18th of February 2018, by the aerial, rocket and artillery shelling on the cities and towns of Douma, Harasta, Arbin, Zamalka, Hamouriyah, Jesrin, Kafr Batna, Hazza, Ash’ari, Nashabiyah, Aftries, Otaya, Al-Shifonyyah, Al-Marj area, Mesraba, Madyara, Beit Sawa, and other areas in the besieged Ghouta of Damascus. This resulted in the injury of more than 5200 citizens including hundreds of children and citizen women with varying severity, some of them have permanent disabilities, while the bodies of tens of citizens are still under the rubble of destruction caused by the aerial, rocket and artillery shelling by the regime forces on the Eastern Ghouta of Damascus, and the total death toll documented by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, includes 869 casualties including 135 children and 91 women who were killed and documented by the SOHR after the resolution of the UNSC, which failed again to stop the killing of the people of the Eastern Ghouta, and the shelling resulted in the fall of hundreds of wounded, where the number of casualties may increase because of the presence of serious injuries, amid the tragic humanitarian situation of the people of Ghouta, who intersected sources confirmed to the Syrian Observatory that they do not leave the shelters for fear of the intensive shelling, amid inability of the medical staff to relieve all medical cases. *** The following are news stories from the US Department of Defense website (http://www.defense.gov/News) : *** US Officials Report Details of Latest Defeat-ISIS Strikes in Syria, Iraq From a Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve News Release SOUTHWEST ASIA, March 16, 2018 — Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve and its partners continued to strike Islamic State of Iraq and Syria targets in designated parts of Syria and Iraq between March 9-15, conducting 23 strikes consisting of 37 engagements. Strikes in Syria Yesterday in Syria, coalition military forces conducted a strike consisting of two engagements against ISIS targets near Abu Kamal. The strikes destroyed an ISIS observation post. On March 14, coalition military forces conducted a strike consisting of four engagements against ISIS targets near Shadaddi. The strike destroyed an ISIS-held building. There were no reported strikes conducted in Syria on March 13. On March 12, coalition military forces conducted a strike consisting of two engagements against ISIS targets near Shadaddi. The strike destroyed an ISIS-held building. On March 11, coalition military forces conducted a strike consisting of one engagement against ISIS targets near Dayr Az Zawr. The strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS drone. On March 10, coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of two engagements against ISIS targets: -- Near Abu Kamal, a strike destroyed an ISIS-held building. -- Near Dayr Az Zawr, a strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit. On March 9, coalition military forces conducted three strikes consisting of three engagements against ISIS targets near Abu Kamal. The strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed an ISIS-held building and a weapons cache. Strikes in Iraq Yesterday, coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of two engagements against ISIS targets: -- Near Qaim, a strike destroyed an ISIS supply route. -- Near Qayyarah, a strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit. On March 14, coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of seven engagements against ISIS targets near Rutbah. The strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed two ISIS-held buildings, two ISIS vehicles and three fighting positions. On March 13, coalition military forces conducted four strikes consisting of six engagement against ISIS targets: -- Near Baghdad, a strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit. -- Near Rutbah, a strike damaged an ISIS tunnel. -- Near Qayyarah, two strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed two ISIS watercraft and a fighting position. On March 12, coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of three engagements against ISIS targets near Rutbah. The strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed an ISIS tunnel and a ISIS vehicle. On March 11, coalition military forces conducted three strikes consisting of four engagements against ISIS targets near Hawijah. The strikes engaged two ISIS tactical units and destroyed an ISIS camp and a tunnel. On March 10, coalition military forces conducted a strike consisting of one engagement against ISIS targets near Baghdad. The strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit. There were no reported strikes in Iraq on March 9. Additional Strikes in Iraq On March 8, coalition military forces conducted a strike consisting of three engagements against ISIS targets near Tal Afar.
