Two Islamic State militants killed while trying to infiltrate into Iraq’s Baiji

Two Islamic State militants were killed Wednesday while trying to infiltrate into Baiji district in Salahuddin, a security source was quoted as saying.
Speaking to Almaalomah website, the source said “a security force from al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) killed the pair as they were trying to sneak into Baiji district via desert routes.”
The source added that there is a security presence across the desert areas in Baiji to foil any infiltration attempt by Islamic State militants.
Iraq declared the collapse of Islamic State’s territorial influence last November with the recapture of Rawa, a city on Anbar’s western borders with Syria, which was the group’s last bastion in Iraq.
IS declared a self-styled “caliphate” in a third of Iraq and neighboring Syria in 2014. A government campaign, backed by a U.S.-led international coalition and paramilitary forces, was launched in 2016 to retake IS-held regions, managing to retake all havens, most notably the city of Mosul, the group’s previously proclaimed capital.
Despite the group’s crushing defeat at its main havens across Iraq, Islamic State continues to launch sporadic attacks against troops with security reports warning that the militant group still poses a threat against stability in the country.
Nine Islamic State members killed in airstrike, west of Anbar

Nine Islamic State members were killed as an airstrike targeted a tunnel used by the militants, west of Anbar, a leader from the pro-government paramilitary troops in the province said on Wednesday.
Speaking to Almaalomah website, Qutri al-Obeidi, of the mobilization forces, said “the army jets shelled a secret tunnel of Islamic State in Wadi al-Maraabdiya region in Hit town, which left nine militants killed.”
Information from the intelligence department, according to Obeidi, “enabled the army from targeting the tunnel.”

3 civilians killed in bomb blast, armed attack, northeast of Baquba

Three civilians, including a mayor of a village, were killed in a bomb blast and an armed attack, northeast of Baquba, a local source from Diyala said on Wednesday.
Speaking to AlSumaria News, the source said, “the mayor of Zahra village in al-Waqf basin was killed in a bomb blast near his garden, while two other farmers were killed in an armed attack carried out by unidentified persons in another garden.”
Investigations on the two accidents were conducted, according to the source, who preferred anonymity.
A total of 76 people were killed and 129 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts during the month of June, casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).
Diyala was the worst affected Governorate, according to the report, with 52 civilian casualties (16 killed, 36 injured), then came Kirkuk (10 killed, 36 injured) then Baghdad (19 killed and 18 injured).

Islamic State members killed, injured in operation, south of Mosul

Two Islamic State members were killed and injured during a security operation carried out, south of Mosul, a source said on Tuesday.
Speaking to Mawazin News, the source said, “security forces carried out an operation in al-Haj Ali, south of Mosul, which left a militant killed and another injured after besieging them.”
The injured, according to the source, was arrested. “Security services confiscated weapons that were in their possession.”

Paramilitary troops kill three Islamic State in infiltration attempt in Diyala

Three Islamic State members were killed in an infiltration attempt in Diyala by the pro-government paramilitary troops, a security source said on Monday.
Speaking to Almaalomah website, the source said “forces of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) managed to kill three Islamic State members who were trying to sneak into al-Udhaim region from the northern side.”
PMFs, according to the source, “carry out operations every now and then to secure Udhaim road and the vast desert stretching between the mountains.”

Internal security forces of Iraqi Kurdistan Region, Asayish, reportedly killed 2 of the three attackers who stormed the Erbil governorate building, and arrested a third who was wounded, Baghdad Today quoted a security source saying.
Later Kurdish media reports said later, however, that all of the three assailants were killed.
Earlier, Iraqi Alforat news website quoted Nebez Abdul-Hamid, mayor of Erbil, saying that three Islamic State militants attacked the Erbil governorate building in Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
Abdul-Hamid said the trio shouted “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is greatest ) while storming the facility.
Reports quoted deputy governor Taher Abdullah saying that the gunmen wounded two security officers.
Alghad Press quoted Halan Hormoz, board secretary at the governorate’s office, saying that the attackers stormed the building before the start of the working shifts, assuring that they had held no hostages. But some reports say one employee was freed from the attacker’s grip.
Mawazin News quoted a security source saying that the wounded attacker was transferred to hospital, adding that the group had possibly sneaked into the province from Kirkuk with internal help.
Iraq is still witnessing militant attacks against security forces and civilians even after declaring the defeat of Islamic State militants last year.
Kurdistan’s security situation witnessed tensions after a standoff with Iraqi security forces which took over areas disputed by the central government in Baghdad and Erbil in response to a referendum in which a majority in Kurdistan Region voted for independence from Iraq.

Fifteen Islamic State members were killed in an airstrike, northeast of Diyala, a commander said on Sunday.
Speaking to AlSumaria News, Mazhar al-Azzawi, said “fifteen Islamic State members were killed in shelling by the Iraqi fighter jets in Felkana region, northeast of Diyala.”
Security services have announced killing several Islamic State members in airstrikes against the rest houses of the militant group over the past few months.

Iraqi troops kill group of Islamic State militants, destroy two hideouts in Salahuddin

Iraqi authorities said on Saturday that security forces killed a group of Islamic State militants during a military operation in Salahuddin province.
In a statement, a copy of which was obtained by Alforat news website Saturday, spokesman for the Iraqi Security Media Council Brig. Gen. Yehia Rasool said, “A force from Salahuddin Operations Command spotted a group of Islamic Stat terrorists on board two boats in Al-Shirqat district in Salahuddin.”
The troops immediately “opened fire at the two boats, killing all the terrorists on board,” the spokesman added.
The statement did not elaborate how many IS terrorists were exactly killed in the operation.
In another military operation, a security force managed to destroy two hotbeds of Islamic State in Tirkit island.

At least 30 persons killed, injured in bomb blasts in Kirkuk

Over thirty people were killed and injured in several bomb blasts in Kirkuk, according to security sources and the Security Media Center.
Speaking to Mawazin News on Wednesday, the source said, “a blast took place near a restaurant on Baghdad road. Another explosion took place near a store. A third blast took place near Dumeiz region.”
The preliminary results of the blast, according to the source, “left a person killed and eighteen others injured, two of whom were in serious condition.”
In a brief statement, the Interior Ministry’s Security Media Center said “security troops in Kirkuk carried out a wide-scale campaign in search for militants who hurled stun grenades on Rahim Awah-Shurjah road.”
The statement also indicated explosion of three bombs on Baghdad road near a fuel station, which left a civilian wounded.
According to a local police source in Kirkuk, 12 civilians were wounded due to explosions and shooting of mortar missiles near children hospital in center of the province.

Five Peshmerga fighters, Islamic State members killed in joint operation, southeast of Mosul

Kurdish Peshmerga forces. File photo.[/caption Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Several fighters of the Kurdish Peshmerga were killed and injured in an operation launched, in cooperation with the U.S.-led Coalition, southeast of Mosul, BasNews website reported on Monday.
The operation launched against Islamic State in Qargoukh region, near Makhmur, left many militants killed. Moreover, five Peshmerga fighters, including an officer, were killed, while others were wounded.
The operation was launched early on Monday with airstrikes by the Coalition jets, which were followed by operations by the Peshmerga.
The joint operation between the Kurdish troops and the Coalition comes after around two weeks of another operation in the same region. An informed source said, late June, that a joint operation was launched there, leaving a senior Islamic State member killed.
On Saturday, fourteen members of Islamic State cells were arrested as a wide-scale security operation was carried out, south of Mosul, spokesperson for Nineveh Police Command said.
Last week, twenty-three Islamic State members, including leaders, were arrested, northwest of Mosul, as security forces carried out an operation in Badush village to follow the militants.

U.S.-led coalition warplanes kill 14 Islamic State militants in Kirkuk

Up to 14 members of Islamic State were killed Tuesday in a series of airstrikes on Kirkuk province by the U.S.-led international coalition warplanes, a security source was quoted as saying.
“Airstrikes launched by fighter jets of the U.S.-led international coalition have targeted several terrorist hotbeds of Islamic State in northwestern Kirkuk, leaving 14 militants dead,” Baghdad Post website quoted the source.
The source added that the airstrikes “were carried out in coordination with Iraqi intelligence agencies.”
Iraqi security forces, backed by paramilitary troops of al-Hashd al-Shaabi and Peshmerga fighters, had launched a military operation dubbed Martyrs’ Revenge to chase Islamic State militants at their hotbeds in Kirkuk, Diyala and Salahuddin provinces.
The Islamic State group appeared on the international scene in 2014 when it seized large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria, declaring the establishment of an Islamic “caliphate” from Mosul city.
Later on, the group has become notorious for its brutality, including mass killings, abductions and beheadings, prompting the U.S. to lead an international coalition to destroy it.

Coalition Strikes Kill High-Value ISIS Members

US-led Coalition strikes have killed six Islamic State of Iraq and Syria leaders and planners since April 24, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials announced today.
The removal of these leaders has prevented ISIS external attack planning, facilitation and operations targeting Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Sweden, officials said.
Munawwar al-Mutayari, a Syria-based ISIS member planning external attacks to be carried out in Saudi Arabia, was killed by a coalition kinetic strike April 24.
A Belgian, Soufiane Makouh, who came to Syria to plan attacks against the U.S and its interests, was killed by a kinetic strike June 2.
On June 12, coalition forces conducted a kinetic strike against Simak, an ISIS intelligence official linked to a cell plotting attacks in Sweden. Two additional individuals directly associated with the Sweden attack plot, Abu Awf and Abu-Quddamah, were killed on June 24. Additionally, Swedish attack cell member Sharif al-Ragab was killed June 26.
