Jumeily was killed along with his wife, children and 40 other prominent members, the officer added. Iraqi troops announced in April Jumeily’s death, however, the militant group showed him in one of its video releases. The Joint Operations Command announced on Saturday that only fifty percent of the regions between Salahuddin and Anbar provinces were liberated. At least 15 Islamic State members were killed in airstrike by the U.S.-led Coalition jets in the western desert, the War Media Cell said in a statement. Last week, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said his country defeated Islamic State over the military level, but will declare final victory after desert areas are purged of militants. A government campaign, backed by paramilitary troops and the coalition has been fighting, since October 2016, the militant group, which declared a self-styled “caliphate” from Mosul in June 2014. Four Islamic State members killed by army airstrike in Nineveh by Nehal Mostafa Nov 25, 2017, 9:27 pm Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) -- Four Islamic State militants were killed in an airstrike carried out by Iraqi army in Nineveh province, security sources were quoted saying. Iraqi fighter jets targeted six locations of IS remnants at the boundaries of Hammam al-Alil, south of Mosul, Col. Abdul Salam al-Jabouri, of the army, told Anadolu agency on Saturday. “Some havens by the Tigris River and on islands in the river, where the militants are hiding, were targeted,” he added. Meanwhile, Cap. Ahmed al-Jabouri, of the military’s Nineveh Operations Command, said “four IS members were killed due to the airstrikes there.” “The shelling took place simultaneously with an operation on the ground carried out by Federal Police to destroy the IS hideouts, from which they attack surrounding regions,” he said. “Federal Police cordoned off the region and used boats to invade it in search for militants,” he added. On July 10, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory over IS militants who had held the second largest Iraqi city since 2014. More than 25000 militants were killed throughout the campaign, which started in October 2016. Since the city was declared free, security troops continue to comb western Mosul areas for hidden IS cells. In related news, an informed source from Nineveh Operations Command said wide-scale campaign was launched to comb west and central Mosul regions. “The Iraqi army’s 16th division, in collaboration with al-Hashd al-Shaabi [Popular Mobilization Forces] and local police combed the central islands in Tigris river and regions on the banks of the river in the western flank of the city,” the source said. “The command received information over presence of sleeper cells in the region falling between the eastern and western sides of Mosul,” the source said, adding that operations are ongoing to comb regions in Mosul. Coalition jets destroy IS targets, kill militants in desert: Military by Nehal Mostafa Nov 22, 2017, 11:00 pm Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) -- The U.S.-led Coalition jets have destroyed more than twenty targets of Islamic State, killing militants in Al-Jazeera desert, the military media reported. In a statement on Wednesday, the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said, “the Coalition jets launched airstrike against IS militants in al-Jazeera desert.” “The airstrike left militants killed and twenty-two targets, including headquarters, havens as well as stores of booby-trapped vehicles, destroyed,” it added. Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said during his weekly press briefing on Tuesday that his country has defeated Islamic State over the military level, but will declare final victory after desert areas are purged of militants. Brig. Gen. Yehia Rasool, spokesperson for the Joint Operations Command, announced on Friday, achieving “great victory” in Rawa, stressing that advance will resume in the depth of desert toward the Syrian borders. Iraqi Interior Minister said that the military presence of IS is over after the liberation of Rawa in western Anbar. Strikes in Syria Yesterday near Abu Kamal in Syria, coalition military forces conducted a strike that engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS vehicle consisting of two engagements against ISIS targets. There were no reported strikes conducted in Syria on Nov. 22. There were no reported strikes conducted in Syria on Nov. 21. On Nov. 19 near Abu Kamal, two strikes consisting of two engagements damaged four ISIS tunnel systems. Strikes in Iraq There were no reported strikes conducted in Iraq yesterday. On Nov. 22 near Qayyarah in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted two strikes consisting of two engagements that destroyed an ISIS headquarters and a vehicle-borne bomb factory. On Nov. 21 in Iraq, coalition military forces conducted six strikes consisting of nine engagements against ISIS targets: -- Near Qaim, a strike engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS vehicle. -- Near Qayyarah, two strikes engaged an ISIS tactical unit and destroyed an ISIS air defense headquarters, a fighting position and 22 ISIS-held buildings. -- Near Rawah, three strikes destroyed two ISIS tunnels, two weapons caches and an ISIS bunker.
