Dozens Of Injuries In Hebron As Army Invasions Escalate

Palestinian medical sources have reported that dozens of soldiers invaded, late on Monday at night and Tuesday at dawn, different areas in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, leading to clashes with local residents.

The Hebron district has been subject to ongoing invasions and assaults, especially after fanatic Israeli settlers kidnapped, and burnt to death, a Palestinian child in Jerusalem last week.

Local sources in Hebron said dozens of residents suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation in Bab az-Zaweya area, in Hebron, in addition to Beit Ummar, al-‘Arroub refugee camp, al-Fawwar refugee camp, Kharsa area south of Doura town, and many nearby Palestinian communities.

Medical sources in the al-’Arroub refugee camp said a young man was shot by a gas bomb in the abdomen, and suffered a moderate injury, while many Palestinians received treatment for the effects of tear gas inhalation.

A young Palestinian man from Kharsa area was moved to a local hospital, suffering a moderate injury, after being shot by a rubber-coated metal bullet in his face.

Clashes also took place in Aseeda area, in Beit Ummar town, after scores of soldiers invaded it, and fired rounds of live ammunition, rubber-coated metal bullets, gas bombs and concussion grenades.

Local youths responded by throwing stones, empty bottles and some Molotov cocktails at the invading soldiers. The army reported no injuries among the soldiers.

Palestinian medical sources have reported that dozens of Palestinians suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation, during clashes with Israeli soldiers invading Hebron city, the al-Fawwar refugee camp, and nearby communities.

Eyewitnesses said dozens of soldiers invaded the Bab az-Zaweya area, in the center of Hebron city, and clashed with dozens of local youth who hurled stones at them.
Similar clashes took place at the main entrance of the al-Fawwar refugee camp, south of the city.

Medical sources said that dozens suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation, while many fainted.

One Palestinian was shot in the face by a rubber-coated metal bullet fired by Israeli soldiers invading Kharsa village, south of Hebron, and was moved to a local hospital, while scores of Palestinians suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation.

Rateb Jabour, Coordinator of the Popular Committee Against the Wall, stated dozens of soldiers also invaded Zeef area in Yatta town, fired rounds of live ammunition and rubber-coated metal bullets.

Coordinator of the Popular Committee Against Settlements in Beit Ummar town, Mohammad Awad, said clashes took place in the center of the town, after several armored Israeli military vehicles invaded it, and that dozens of Palestinians received treatment for the effects of tear gas inhalation. In occupied Jerusalem, Israeli soldiers kidnapped four Palestinian children, on Monday at night, in a number of areas including Sur Baher, Bab as-Sahera (Herod's Gate), and close to the Rockefeller Museum. Three children have also been kidnapped in Beit Safafa town, south of occupied Jerusalem.

Dozens Injured, Several Palestinians Kidnapped, In West Bank

Israeli soldiers invaded, on Monday at dawn, several Palestinians communities in the occupied West Bank, clashing with local youth causing dozens of injuries, while several Palestinians have been kidnapped.

Medical sources in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, have reported that at least 20 Palestinians have been shot with rubber-coated metal bullets in the al-’Arroub refugee camp.

Two more Palestinians suffered various cuts and bruises, after being assaulted by Israeli soldiers, who invaded and ransacked several homes in the camp.

Also, a 52-year-old woman identified as Fayqa Mohammad al-Badawi, suffered numerous cuts and bruises to different parts of her body, after a number of soldiers punched and kicked and pushed her around.

The soldiers fired several gas bombs into her home, broke several windows, before assaulting the woman and two of her children, who were moved to the Hebron Governmental Hospital for treatment.

They also hurled smoke bombs into various homes, spraying them with waste-water after shattering the windows, and assaulted the families.

Clashes also took place in Bab az-Zaweya, in the center of Hebron city, the southern area of the city, Tareq Ben Ziad Junction, and the northern entrance of Yatta nearby town.

One Palestinian was shot by rounds of live ammunition, after the soldiers invaded Shuhada Street. The wounded has been identified as Hammad Ehmeidan, age 22.

Another Palestinian was also injured in the same area, after the soldiers shot him in the leg, and kidnapped him.

More clashes took place in Beit Ummar town, north of the city, and the soldiers fired several live rounds, rubber-coated metal bullets, gas bombs and concussion grenades.

In Tulkarem, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, two Palestinians were shot with live rounds and dozens suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation.

Medical sources said Samer Msei’ey, 21, and Aysar Raed Nasrallah, 17, have been shot with live rounds in the Tulkarem refugee camp. Msei’ey was shot in his foot, and Nasrallah was shot in his pelvis. Dozens suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation.

In addition, two Palestinians were shot with rubber-coated metal bullets, while dozens suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation during clashes that took place with dozens of soldiers who invaded Jericho city from its northern entrance.

The two wounded Palestinians have been moved to the Jericho Hospital, while the rest received treatment by Red Crescent medics.

Dozens Injured By army Fire In Hebron

Palestinian medical sources have reported that dozens of Palestinians have been wounded, late on Friday at night, during clashes with Israeli soldiers at the northern entrance of the al-‘Arroub refugee camp, north of the southern West Bank city of Hebron.

The sources said six Palestinians were shot by rubber-coated metal bullets, while at least two were directly hit by gas bombs fired by the army, and suffered burns and bruises to various parts of their bodies.

The soldiers prevented Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances from entering the camp, and the medics had to walk into the camp to provide the needed treatment to the wounded Palestinians.

Scores of residents suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation, and some lost consciousness, as the soldiers fired gas bombs at different homes, especially homes close to the military tower, at the entrance of the camp.

The families had to leave their homes and seek shelter elsewhere due to the massive number of gas bombs fired by the soldiers.

Clashes also took place in the southern area of Hebron city, especially in the Old City, and Tareq Ben Ziad junction. Dozens of residents suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation.

On Saturday at dawn, soldiers invaded Barta’a ash-Sharqiyya village, southwest of the northern West Bank city of Jenin, and fired rounds of live ammunition, rubber-coated metal bullets, gas bombs and concussion grenades, causing dozens of residents to suffer the effects of tear gas inhalation.

The army left the village two hours later, no arrests were reported.

Also on Saturday at dawn, several Palestinian communities in the West Bank district of Bethlehem, searched homes and kidnapped three Palestinians.

The soldiers also installed roadblocks, isolating two villages.

Settlers Attack, Beat, A Palestinian In Hebron

A number of fanatic Israeli settlers attacked, on Saturday, a Palestinian man in the southern West Bank city of Hebron, and violently beat him, inflicting moderate injuries.
The attack took place in the Sha’aba neighborhood, in Hebron city.

The wounded Palestinian, Bashir Sobhi al-Mohtaseb, 30, was moved to the al-Ahli Hospital in the city, suffering various cuts and bruises.

The WAFA News Agency quoted Palestinian residents of the area stating that the settlers came from the Keryat Arba’ illegal settlement, east of Hebron city.

Summary of last week of Israeli settler violence directed at Palestinian civilians

Over the past week, since the bodies of three Israeli settlers were found by police near Hebron, the streets of Jerusalem and areas near Israeli settlements in the West Bank have become ‘no go’ zones for Palestinian civilians, as mobs of angry Israelis roam the streets attacking random civilians.

Here’s a summary of the attacks carried out since Monday 6/30:

June 30:
On the night of Monday June 30th, in two separate incidents, Israeli settlers in Hebron marched through the streets and wounded 19-year old Sajed Sultan in the head. In Bethlehem the same night, an Israeli settler intentionally hit Sanabel Attous, age 9, with his car, then drove away, leaving her critically wounded in a ditch.

Israeli leaders and officials stepped up the anti-Palestinian statements that had begun nearly 3 weeks before when the settlers disappeared. On June 30th, former Israeli Knesset (Parliament) member posted a video Monday called Palestinian children “little terrorists”, and called for “Death to the enemy, evacuation, and wiping off of [their] smile”, according to a translation by the Electronic Intifada.

EI also quoted Tzachi Hanegbi, a former cabinet minister from the ruling Likud party, as saying, “I don’t know how many Hamas leaders will remain alive after tonight.”

A number of attacks took place late Monday night in Jerusalem, after groups of right-wing Israelis took to the streets chanting ‘Death to Arabs’. In one incident, a number of settlers assaulted a Palestinian taxi driver, spraying pepper gas into his face. He was taken to a hospital, following the incident.

July 1:
On Tuesday, July 1st, according to witnesses, a Palestinian child escaped a kidnapping attempt by a settler in Jerusalem. Apparently, the settler attempted to force the child into his car in Shu'fat, outside of Jerusalem, where residents managed to pry him out of the setter’s hands. The child was transferred to the hospital for treatment.

July 2:
A group of right-wing Israelis abducted 16-year old Mohammed Abu Khdeir from outside a mosque, took him to an isolated area, beat him and lit him on fire. The 16-year old burned to death, and his body was discovered by police several hours later.

The death of Abu Khdeir set off protests across Jerusalem, and Israeli police responded with lethal and less-than-lethal weapons, wounding 212 Palestinians between Wednesday the 2nd and Thursday the 3rd.

July 3:
On Thursday, July 3rd, 15-year old U.S. citizen Tariq Abu Khdeir from Tampa, Florida, the cousin of the 16-year old who had been brutally murdered the previous day, was grabbed by Israeli officers and beaten badly, in an attack that was captured on tape and garnered worldwide attention.

In the village of Osrin, on Thursday, a Palestinian youth named Zeyad Adili, age 22, was admitted to a hospital with injuries nearly leading to the amputation of his leg, after Israeli settlers attacked him with an axe and tried to cut off his leg, south of Nablus.

Also Thursday, a group of Israeli settlers led by mayor of the illegal Ma’ale Adumim settlement, Benny Kashriel, set up a tent in Area E1, between the settlement and Jerusalem. Mayor Kashriel requested that Israeli authorities build new settlement units in the area, in response to the deaths of the three Israeli settlers. Construction in E1 is very controversial, as the construction of settlements in this region will create a physical link between Ma'ale Adumim and Jerusalem, dividing East Jerusalem from the rest of the West Bank and its Palestinian population centers.

July 4:
On Friday July 4th, dozens of settlers installed four mobile homes on Palestinian lands, east of Teqoua’. In Surif, near Hebron, a number of settlers installed mobile homes, west of the town. And Israeli settlers placed mobile homes on locally-owned land adjacent to Roman, to facilitate its expansion.

Also on Friday, to the east of Bethlehem, a Palestinian teenager ‘Ala ‘Abayyat, 17, was run over by an Israeli settler near Kisan.

July 5:
On Saturday, July 5th, a number of settlers from the illegal Kiryat Arba settlement, east of Hebron, attacked a defenseless 30-year-old Palestinian man, severely wounding him throughout his body.

In Ya‘bad, to the southwest of Jenin, Israeli settlers from Mabo Dothan and Harmish, also illegal settlements, invaded the entrance of the city, where they burned tires. They then infiltrated nearby agricultural lands. Under the protection of Israeli forces, they drove their cars along Ya‘bad and Kfiret junction in a provocative manner, hoisting Israeli flags and chanting racist slogans, according to WAFA. Forces set up a roadblock at the entrance of Ya‘bad, preventing villagers from travelling in and out of the village.

Also on Saturday, Israeli settlers paved a bypass road on Palestinian-owned land in Taqou‘, east of Bethlehem. In addition, settlers began planting on Palestinian land near the outpost of Roman, with the intention of completely taking it over.

July 6:
Confrontations erupted between Israeli settlers and Palestinian citizens of Eynabus, to the south of Nablus, after the settlers stormed the village and assaulted its citizens

July 7:
On Monday, July 7th, Palestinian villagers in al-Bathan and al-Naqura confronted Israeli settlers as they tried to storm the two villages.

The Ahrar Center for Detainee’s Studies and Human Rights stated in its report on Israeli violations in the first half of 2014, that Israeli soldiers have killed 35 Palestinians, in the occupied Palestinian territories.

The Ahrar center said that the Israeli assaults, crimes and targeted killing are all direct and serious violations of International Law, the Fourth Geneva Convention, and all related international agreements regarding the protection of people under occupation.

It added that, encouraged but outrageous international silence, Israel continues to escalate its crimes against the Palestinians people, their lands and their holy sites.

According to detailed data by the Ahrar Center, the army has kidnapped 911 Palestinians including legislators and former political prisoners in June.

Welcome to this Week in Palestine, a service of the International Middle East Media Center, www.imemc.org, for June 28th to July 4th, 2014.

Three Palestinian were killed these week due to Israeli army and settlers attacks. Meanwhile a ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel may end the army escalation against the coastal enclave. These stories and more, coming up, stay tuned.

The Nonviolence Report

Let’s us begin our weekly report with nonviolent activities organized in the West Bank. Israeli troops injured one international supporter and many other were treated for the effect of tear gas inhalation as they attacked anti wall protests organized at a number of West Bank communities. IMEMC’s Majd Batjali has more:

Palestinians organized protests against the settlement activities and the construction of the wall on their land in the villages of Bil’in, Ni’lin and al Nabi Saleh in central West Bank, as well as Al Ma’asara village in southern West Bank.

One international supporter was injured, another arrested by Israeli troops and many protestors were treated for the effects of tear gas inhalation when soldiers attacked the villagers and their supporters in the villages of Bil’in, Ni’lin and al Nabi Saleh.

Israeli troops stopped the protestors at the entrance of Nabil Saleh village before they reach the confiscated land. They forced them to the retreat as they showered them with tear gas and rubber-coated steel bullets. In Bil’in and Ni’lin, people managed to reach the Israeli wall.

In the village of Al Ma’ssara near Bethlehem, residents were forced back by Israeli troops stationed at the village entrance. No injuries were reported.

The Political Report

Hamas leaders in Gaza hinted at the possibility of a ceasefire deal with Israel. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah urged world leaders to intervene for preventing further Israeli attacks on both Gaza and the West Bank. IMEMC’s Rami Al Meghari with the details:

Hamas MP in Gaza, Mosheer Almasry, said this Friday that his Islamist party would likely reach a ceasefire agreement with Israel, after Egyptian intervention. The situation on the ground has been steadily getting tense after Israel carried out dozens of airstrikes against Gaza, in what Israel says halt of rocket fire from Gaza, onto nearby Israel.

This week, Palestinian armed factions in the coastal territory fired scores of rocket fire onto nearby Israeli areas, in what the armed factions, including that of Hamas, a response to continued Israeli military actions against the Palestinians in the West Bank.

Also, this week, world leaders including Ban Ki-Moon of the United Nations , David Kameron of Britain, Jhon Kerry, US's Secretary of States and Angela Merkel of Jermany, all condemned the kidnap, brutal murder and burn-out of a Palestinian teen boy in Jerusalem, by illegal Israeli settlers.

Palestinian Authority's president, Mahmoud Abbas, called on international bodies to intervene in order to prevent further Israeli actions against the West Bank, after three missing youth settlers, were found killed near the Hebron city.

Israel has so far rounded up hundreds of Palestinians, two thirds of them belong to the Islamist Hamas party, which Israel accuses of kidnapping and murdering the three settler youth last month. Israel says it's actions will continue in Hebron, until perpetrators of the attack on settlers , are detained.

Right groups condemned the actions as 'collective punishment'. Hamas insists it has nothing to do with the killed three settlers.

At the internal Palestinian level, the former Hamas government in Gaza said this week that the recently-formed technocrat government that replaced both Gaza's and West Bank's governments, in light of the Hamas-Fatah unity deal, has not yet lived up with it's commitments to the Gaza Strip.

Hamas's deputy-political leader in Gaza, Mousa Abu Marzouq, was quoted as saying that such a situation would likely prompt Hamas to take care of the people in Gaza, away from any unity deals.

The West Bank and Gaza Report

Two Palestinians were killed this week by Israeli settlers and army attacks targeting West Bank communities. Meanwhile one man was reported dead and at least 14 civilians were injured in Gaza by Israeli continued bombardment. IMEMC’s Eman Abedraboo-Bannoura reports:

Hundreds marched on Friday in the funeral of 16-year-old Muhammad Abu Khdeir at Shu'fat in occupied east Jerusalem. Later clashes erupted between local youth and Israeli soldiers, leading to at least 16 injured youth by Israeli troops’ gunfire and tear gas.

Abu Khdeir was kidnapped and killed then his body was burned by Israeli settlers on Wednesday. Shortly after his body was found clashes erupted all over occupied Jerusalem between protesting Palestinian youth and Israeli soldiers. As a result 300 Palestinian youth were left injured. The clashes continued all week.

Meanwhile a Palestinian man was shoot and killed on Tuesday by Israeli soldiers during an army invasion targeting the northern west Bank city of Jenin. Israeli soldiers assassinated Ibrahim Abu Zagha, 21, after they infiltrated into the Jenin refugee camp. The young man was returning home, carrying food for his family to eat before starting their fast, as the Muslims are marking the holy month of Ramadan. Abu Zagha was instantly killed after being struck by several rounds of live ammunition, fired by the undercover forces.

All week, Israeli settlers groups tried to kidnap Palestinian civilians and kill them. Incidents were reported in Jerusalem and in the southern West Bank city of Hebron. The settlers are holding Palestinians for the three killed youth and calling for revenge killings during protests they staged in Jerusalem or on online social media outtlits.

Moreover, Israeli daily invasions continued to target West Bank communities this week. Israeli troops have kidnapped at least 100 people during those attacks. Palestinian medical sources also reported that at least 30 people were injured during the clashes between local youth and invading Israeli soldiers in the West Bank.

Elsewhere, Israeli aerial and ground bombardment continued to hit the Gaza strip. One Palestinian was killed and two were injured on Sunday evening, after being struck by an Israeli missile east of the town of al-Qarara, northeast of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip. Local sources said that an Israeli drone fired a missile targeting a Hamas fighter, while driving his motorcycle, killing him and wounding two bystanders.

At least ten Palestinians have been injured, on Thursday at dawn, in a series of Israeli air strikes targeting different parts of the besieged Gaza Strip. Medical sources said that seven Palestinians, including three girls and an elderly woman, have been injured when the army fired missiles into Beit Lahia, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.

They were all moved to the Kamal Adwan Hospital. Three more Palestinians were wounded when the army fired missiles into the al-Maqousi residential towers areas, northwest of Gaza city, and were moved to the Shifa Medical Center.

Four more civilians were injured when the Israeli Air Force carried out, on Tuesday before dawn, more than 34 air strikes targeting different areas of the coastal region. The attacks caused excessive property damage.
