Report: 95% of Palestinian prisoners subjected to torture

RAMALLAH, (PIC)--

A human rights report said on Tuesday that 95% of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation jails have been subjected to various means of torture.

The Palestinian prisoner’s society said that torture in Israeli jails does not spare women or minors and even sick internees, and added that violence against prisoners takes various forms.

The society called for internationalizing the issue of prisoners and for backing them at all platforms.

Patient prisoners call for prosecuting those responsible for crimes against them

NABLUS, (PIC)--

Palestinian patient prisoners in Israeli jails called for prosecuting all those responsible for the Israeli deliberate medical negligence policy against them, warning of the continued international silence vis-à-vis Israeli crimes.

After a visit to Eshel prison where 15 patient prisoners are held, the Palestinian prisoner’s society lawyer said that human rights institutions had sent a letter to this prison administration asking it to put an end to its deliberate medical negligence especially that the 15 patient prisoners are in dire need for treatment and urgent surgeries.

In the same context, Ahmad Sa’adat, General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said that hundreds of prisoners are suffering from chronic illness and are in urgent need of treatment, and the deterioration of their conditions is very disturbing.

For his part, Jerusalemite captive Samer al-Issawi, held in Shatta prison, confirmed that patient prisoners are subjected to slow death policy coupled with international silence toward their condition.

Palestinian prisoners in all Israeli prisons have declared three days of mourning following the death of the prisoner al-Turabi, and refused their meals.

Meanwhile, Israeli prison administration informed the patient prisoner Murad Abu Meileq, who is held in Ramle prison clinic, of its intention to allow a surgery for him without further details.

Abu Meileq, detained since 2001 and sentenced to 22 years, suffers colon inflammation since 2004, and had earlier undergone a surgery where 60 cm of his intestines were removed.

After his visit to Abu Meileq, PPS lawyer said that his health situation had dramatically deteriorated and he was suffering constant pain.

On the other hand, a human rights report said that one third of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails have been prevented from family visits under Israeli various pretexts in flagrant violation to international laws topped by the Fourth Geneva Convention.

In the same context, the prisoner Omar Turkmen's father has appealed to human rights institutions to intervene to allow family visits to his son especially that he did not visit his son since his arrest ten years ago.

The elderly prisoner Adel Shinyor, 65, has been denied family visits since nearly a year.

Shinyor, from al-Khalil, has been administratively detained several times most recently in November 2012 where he spent ten years behind Israeli bars.

IOF soldiers raid Qalqilia village, detain five citizens

QALQILIA, (PIC)--

Large numbers of Israeli occupation forces (IOF) raided Azzun village, east of Qalqilia city, at dawn Tuesday and rounded up five young men after searching several houses.

Palestinian sources said that the soldiers forced women, children, and elderly people out of their homes in the early cold dawn hours under gun threat and searched their homes.

They said that the soldiers withdrew a few hours later after taking away the five young men, who included a minor.

They quoted the soldiers as saying that the detainees were wanted for Shabak interrogation but did not say where they were taken.

Jewish settlers bulldoze Palestinian land south of Nablus

NABLUS, (PIC)--

Armed Jewish settlers bulldozed cultivated land lots in Qaryut village, south of Nablus, at noon Monday.

Village sources told the PIC that the settlers were paving the way for annexing those land lots to their settlements established on Palestinian land in Qaryut and other nearby villages.

They said that the armed settlers closed the village’s main road and started bulldozing the land while threatening any Palestinian citizen trying to approach the area.

Qaryut is the target of semi daily attacks on the part of settlers under protection of Israeli occupation forces in a bid to annex more of its land to nearby settlements.

IOA razes houses in northern Jerusalem

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)--

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) razed a number of houses in Beit Hanina town, north of occupied Jerusalem, on Tuesday morning for being built without permit.

The Wadi Hilweh information center said in a press release that Israeli municipality bulldozers razed a number of Palestinian tin houses at an early hour on Tuesday morning.

It said that municipality teams had given the Kastero family, owners of the houses, on Monday only one day to evacuate and destroy their homes made of tin and plaster or the municipality bulldozers would do the job and levy its high cost on the family.

The center said that family members started to dismantle their homes yesterday but they were surprised at the presence of the municipality teams on Tuesday morning with police escort to raze their homes.

It said that two families of 17 members used to live in those caravans, adding that they were built at a cost of around 50,000 dollars.

In the same context, the IOA municipality served a demolition notice to a citizen also of the Kastero family in Beit Hanina that he should knock down a newly built 64-square -meter room at the pretext that it was built without permit.
