NATO drone crashes in N. Afghanistan KABUL, April 6, 2012 (Xinhua) -- A NATO drone crashed Friday in northern Afghanistan, the NATO-led forces said in a press release. "An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicle crashed in northern Afghanistan today," the NATO-led ISAF said in the release. The brief ISAF statement ruled out involvement of insurgent activities in the incident, saying"the cause of the crash is currently being assessed, however, initial reporting indicates there was no enemy activity in the area. The site has been secured and no injuries have been reported as a result of the incident." However, a Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid in talks with local media claimed that the insurgent fighters shot down a NATO helicopter in northern Baghlan province. "An unspecified number of armed militants launched an attack on a police check point in Wardoj district Monday night leaving three policemen with Afghan Border Police dead,"spokesman Abdul Maruf Rasikh told Xinhua. Taliban militants have claimed responsibility for the incident. Taliban Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told local media via cell phone that Taliban fighters had launched an attack on a police check point in Badakhshan, killing 10 policemen.
