Israeli Government Angry at Shalit's Praise of Hamas Treatment, his Wish for Freeing All Palestinian Political Prisoners Shalit: Hamas treated me well [ 18/10/2011 - 10:30 AM ] Cairo, (PIC)-- The freed Israeli soldier and prisoner of war, Gilad Shalit, told the Egyptian TV in an interview shortly after his release from Gaza on Tuesday that Hamas treated him well during his five years in captivity. Shalit, who said he was dismayed at his government for leaving him in captivity for five years, said that he was in good health. He said that he received news of his release a week ago, and added he could not describe his joy at being set free. Shalit said that he would be happy if all Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails were freed and returned to their families. Israel slams Shalit interview [ 19/10/2011 - 10:10 AM ] NAZARETH, (PIC)-- The Israeli Foreign Ministry criticised the television interview conducted by Egyptian TV with freed Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit, shortly before he was handed over to the Israeli side and described as "shameful". Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor told the Hebrew radio on Tuesday that the interview which was imposed on Shalit before he returned to "his country" reflects insensitivity towards him, adding that “it was a shameful thing that Egyptian television should not be proud of”. Israeli security officials said that the short interview was conducted despite the fact that Israeli government ban on airing any pictures of Shalit before his arrival to “Israel".
