Three Iraqi civilians have been injured in an explosive charge blast in central Baghdad on Saturday, a police source reported. “An explosive charge blew up on Saturday planted inside a garbage container in central Baghdad’s Alawi district, wounding 3 civilians, who were driven to a nearby hospital for treatment,” the police source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency. Civilian killed, injured in Anbar explosion

 An Iraqi civilian has been killed and another injured in an explosive charge blast in west Anbar’s al-Baghdady village on Saturday, an Anbar police source reported. “A civilian has been killed and another was injured in an explosive blast on a roadside in al-Baghdady village on Saturday,” the security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The source noted that police forces have boosted security measures, inspecting the whole area of the blast, as a precautional measure against the existence of other explosive charges in the area. Ramadi, the center of Anbar Province, is 110 km to the west of Baghdad. SKH (TP)/SR

Third explosion in Karbala, kills 1, injures 20

KARBALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

An explosive charge, planted in a motorbike close to a checkpoint inside Karbala city, has blown up, in a third incident over the past 24 hours, a Karbala official said on Saturday.

“An explosive charge blew off in a motorbike close to an internal checkpoint leading to central Karbala on Saturday, killing one person and wounding 20 others on Saturday,” the security source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The explosion, the third in Karbala over the past 2 days, was pinpointed against visitors of the city, celebrating the anniversary of the birthday of Imam Mohammed al-Mahdi, the 12th leading Shiite Imam, born in Samarra city, 100 km to the north of Baghdad, in the 255th Century of the Islamic Hijri Year, 8th Century AD.

Karbala had witnessed the killing of 5 persons and wounding 37 others, most of them Shiite visitors from southern Iraq’s provinces.

West Iraq Hindiya township’s blast kills 6, injures 31

KARBALA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A booby-trapped blast in Hindiya township of western Iraq’s Karbala Province on Friday had killed and injured 37 persons, among them 6 killed, most of them visitors, a Hindiya health source reported on Saturday.

“The result of the booby-trapped blast inside a garage in Hindiya township’s Civil Defense garage, had reached 6 people killed and 31 injured, most of them visitors coming from southern Iraq’s provinces,” the health source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The explosion took place in Hindiya township, 20 km to the east of Karbala, where thousands of visitors are attending the anniversary of the birthday of Imam Mohammed al-Mahdi, the 12th Leading Shiite Imam, born on Shaaban 15th of the Muslim Hijri Year 255, 8th Century AD.

Soldier and civilian injured South Mosul

NINEWA / Aswat al-Iraq:

A soldier and civilian were injured today in a sticky bomb south of Mosul, security sources in the province said.

The source told Aswat al-Iraq that the bomb was stuck to a private pick-up belonging to the soldier.

The soldier was on his routine leave with another civilian accompanying him.

No other details were given.

Mosul, the center of Ninewa province, lies 405 km north of the capital, Baghdad.

Civilian killed 5 detained in Kirkuk

KIRKUK / Aswat al-Iraq:

An Iraqi civilian has been killed by unknown gunmen close to his house in southern Kirkuk on Wednesday night, whilst the city’s Emergency Police had arrested 5 suspected persons on the same day, a Kirkuk Joint Coordination Center source reported on Thursday.

“A group of armed men have killed a civilian on Wednesday night, when they opened fire on him, close to his house in southern Kirkuk’s al-Urouba district,” the source told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He said that an Emergency Police force had detained 5 suspected persons, in an offensive and inspection campaign in Kirkuk’s March 1 district, giving no further details.
The oil-rich city of Kirkuk is 280 km to the northeast of Baghdad.

Eight people injured in Baghdad blast

BAGHDAD / Aswat al-Iraq: Iraqi police said that eight people were injured by a bomb blast south of Baghdad.

The source told Aswat al-Iraq that the wounded were in small bus when the bomb exploded on the side of the road.

The explosion damaged some nearby civilian cars, the source added.

Demonstrations in Thi Qar protest U.S. detentions

Dozens of citizens, belonging to al-Jubeir Tribes in southern Iraq’s city of Nassiriya have demonstrated in protest for the detention of three of their men by the U.S.
troops, who carried out an air-landing in the city on Tuesday.

“Dozens of our Tribesmen have demonstrated on Wednesday in front of Thi-Qar Province’s Council building in Nassiriya city, condemning the detention of three of our men, through air-landings,” the Aaal-Jubeir Sheikh, Abul-Heil Hussein told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

The Tribal Chieftain said the demonstrators have demanded meeting Iraq’s Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, to ask for his position towards such detentions that were taking place without the knowledge of the Iraqi security forces in the Province.

Sheikh Hussein described the detention operations as being “hostile and unjustified, because the said three detained persons belonged to the Iraqi Army, and their detention should have been carried out by their military units, instead of a U.S.
air-landing that terrified children and women.”

Aswat al-Iraq news agency’s correspondent in Thi-Qar reported that the demonstrators “have handed over their demands to the Chairman of the Municipal committee in the Province’s Council, Hussein al-Waely, who promised to raise them to the Central Government in Baghdad.”

The American troops have detained three Iraqi Army elements in air-landings at Souq al-Shiyoukh area, 30 km to the east of Nassiriya and al-Tar area, 60 km east of Nassiriya.

Nassirya, the center of Thi-Qar Province, is 60 km to the south of Baghdad.

Iraq-U.S. Security Committee formed to define U.S. troops needed to stay in Iraq

Iraq has formed a joint security committee with the United States, chaired by the Commander-in-Chief of its Armed Forces, Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki and the Commander of the U.S. Forces in Iraq, General L. Austin, to define the number and ranks of American soldiers, needed to stay in Iraq after 2011, according to al-Hayat newspaper on Tuesday.

The newspaper quoted Maliki’s Advisor for north Iraq’s Kurdistan Region’s Affairs, Adel Barwary, as saying: “the current visit of U.S. Defense Secretary, Leon Panetta for Iraq, is aimed to extend the presenc of his country’s troops and their size in Iraq.”

“The Iraqi side has not taken a final decision in this respect till now, because it is waiting for the report of the Commander-in-Chief, Nouri al-Maliki, and the Joint Committee, representing the political forces, that was formed in a recent meeting at the residence of Iraq’s President Jalal Talabani, in order to evaluate the situation of the Iraqi Forces,” Barwary said.

He said Iraq did not need ground forces, but air and an air-defense unit, because of its lack of their existence at the present time, adding that a “joint Iraqi-American Committee was formed under chairmanship of Maliki and Austin, to define the number of soldiers it needs by the end of 2011, as well as areas of their presence, training and armament of the Iraqi security forces.”

According to the Strategic Agreement, signed between Baghdad and Washington in 2008, the American troops were supposed to leave Iraq by the end of the current year.

Three Katusha rockets fall on U.S. Embassy in Baghdad

Three Katusha rockets fell on the U.S. Embassy in west Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone on Tuesday, a security source reported.

“Three Katusha rockets fell on the American Embassy in the Green Zone on Tuesday, but there had been no reports about human or material losses,” the security soruce told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

He said that two of the rockets fell inside the Embassy building, whilst the other fell on the nearby Celebrations Square, close to the building, giving no further details.
