Three Militants Killed in Daghestan

MAKHACHKALA, January 21, 2011 (RIA Novosti)

Three militants, including a local group leader, have been killed in the Russian North Caucasus republic of Daghestan (Dagestan), the government said Friday.

A committee spokesman said law enforcement officers tried to stop a Lada 2109 car, but militants inside it opened fire and were killed by return fire.

Attacks on police and officials are frequent in Russia's volatile North Caucasus republics.
