Russia and Turkey stated, Wednesday, that that International Community must deal with Hamas. In fact, most nations recognize that Hamas has gained the majority of seats in the 2006 parliamentary election, making it the true representative government of the Palestinian people in  the West Bank and Gaza.

When Hamas refused to approve of the Israeli theft of Palestinian property and denial of Palestinian rights, it was boycotted by the Israeli government and its stooge governments in NATO countries.

Thus, the term "International community" is usually used to refer to the Israeli occupation government and the Israeli-controlled governments of NATO countries, which have refused so far to deal with Hamas.

Russia, Turkey Call for Holding Talks With Hamas

Both Russia and Turkey stated, Wednesday, that that International Community must deal with Hamas due to the party's support from the Palestinian people in the 2006 elections; deemed to be fair and free elections, and that they cannot be ignored.

The two countries also called on the Palestinian factions to unite, and to end the current conflict between the rival Fat'h and Hamas movements.

During a press conference with the Russian President, Dmitry Medvedev, in Ankara, Turkish President Abdullah Gul, stated that peace cannot be achieved in the Middle East without Hamas.

Gul added that the International Community cannot rule out talks with Hamas, and that the Palestinians must unite.

He said that Hamas achieved an overwhelming victory in the legislative elections of 2006, therefore it cannot be ignored and is considered an important party in any solution.

Gul further stated that Turkey was threatened when it held talks with Hamas, and added that peace cannot be achieved by alienating the movement.

Furthermore, Russian President, Dimitry Medvedev, stated that Hamas and all parties should be included in the political process, and that the movement cannot be ignored.

Medvedev also stated that the situation on Gaza must be resolved in order to end the humanitarian crises there due to the ongoing siege.

It is worth mentioning that Medvedev and the Syrian President, Bashar Al-Assad, met on Tuesday with Hamas’ Political Bureau Chief in Syria, Khaled Mesha'al, and discussed with him several files topped by the situation in Gaza, national reconciliation and the prisoner-swap deal.

ANKARA, (PIC)--

Turkey and Russia on Wednesday called for necessarily dealing with Hamas Movement as a political party that came to power through fair elections, stressing that the peace process cannot succeed without it.

“It is unfortunate that the Palestinians are divided, but they must come together, and in order to do so, there is a need to talk with both sides. One of the parties is Hamas, which won the elections, so it cannot be ignored,” Turkish president Abdullah Gul said in a joint news conference with visiting Russian president Dmitry Medvedev.

“When Turkey talked with Hamas, it received threats, but later it turned out to be right, peace cannot be achieved by eliminating others,” Gul underlined.

Medvedev, for his part, echoed Gul's remarks, adding that there is a need to find a solution to the humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip.

Medvedev and his Syrian counterpart Bashar Al-Assad met on Tuesday with head of Hamas’s political bureau Khaled Mishaal in Damascus, where they discussed a number of important issues, especially the blockade on Gaza, the national reconciliation and the prisoner swap deal.

In the same context, Dr. Yousuf Rizqa, the political advisor to the Palestinian premier, said Wednesday that Medvedev’s meeting with Mishaal is a step forward in Hamas’s international relations.

In a press release, Dr. Rizqa added that Hamas succeeded to build strategic relations in the international arena.

The advisor stressed that Israel’s persistence in its settlement and Judaization activities in occupied Jerusalem confirms that the peace negotiations are frivolous and confer legitimacy on such practices.

He demanded the Palestinian Authority (PA) in Ramallah to reconsider its deviant position toward its talks with Israel and respond to the Palestinian public opinion calling for halting the negotiations and supporting the option of resistance.

For his part, political analyst and writer Shaker Al-Jawhari described the meeting as “unprecedented” indicating that Hamas gained weight at the international level.

Jawhari said that Mishaal visited Russia twice before and did not meet with Medvedev within his visit programs, but the remarkable thing this time was that the Russian president wanted to meet with the Hamas political leader.

He added that this meeting would pave the way for replacing the Egyptian sponsorship, especially regarding the inter-Palestinian reconciliation, with a Russian role which was given a green light from the international quartet committee.

The writer opined that the problem of recognizing Israel could be the core of the political efforts being made by Russia, which wants to go beyond this point.
