Iranian Parliament Speaker, Ali Larijani, took the Zionist
lobby responsible for the approval of a fresh set of sanctions against
Tehran at the UN Security Council Wednesday night.
After the UN
Security Council voted in favor of imposing fresh sanctions against
Tehran over its nuclear program, Iran's parliament speaker said the US
game against Iran was being spearheaded by the "Zionist lobby, censuring
the US for its stance on the issue.
"We are regretful that the
US is playing a naive game in New York these days," Larijani said in a
meeting with his Omani counterpart Ali Al-Isai in Tehran on Wednesday.
The Iranian official went on to praise Oman for supporting
Iran's nuclear rights, saying "Our Omani friends have a clear and
accurate stance on Iran's nuclear program."
The remarks were
made after the United States moved firmly away from the Obama
administration's promise of diplomatic engagement with Iran and pushed
through a new round of UNSC sanctions against the country.
As a
result, the 15-member UN Security Council, except Turkey, Brazil and
Lebanon, voted in favor of approving a fourth round of sanctions against
Iran on Wednesday.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad played down the effectiveness
of the new UN Security Council's sanctions resolution against the
country, stressing that the measure cannot inflict any damage on the
Iranian nation.
"Those who posses the atomic bombs themselves
both use and stockpile the nuclear weapons while threatening the others
with them, now resort to the pretext that Iran might in the future
manufacture atomic bombs and pass resolutions against us every now and
then," Ahmadinejad said on Wednesday during his visit to Tajikistan.
"I sent a message to one of them, telling him "These resolutions
that you pass resemble used napkins that need to be thrown to the
garbage can,"" Ahmadinejad added.
"They are not capable of
inflicting any damage against the Iranian nation," the president
emphasized.
The US-proposed resolution was passed with 12 votes
on Wednesday after UNSC member states Brazil and Turkey voted against
the new sanctions and Lebanon abstained from voting.
Iran, a
signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and a member of
the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), insists that its nuclear
program is solely directed at the civilian applications of the
technology
"The political scene has become the scene for
cheating, aggression, and expansionism, because under such conditions
the ethical values, love and social relations are cast aside," he added.
