18 killed in Pakistan clashes

At least 18 people have been killed during clashes between Pakistani Taliban fighters (referred to in this report as militants) and security forces across Pakistan in the wave of violence sweeping the country.

17 militants lost their lives in different parts of the restive northwestern sector of the country on Monday after Pakistani fighter jets pounded militants' hideouts in the Jabba area of Upper Orakzai, killing 10 militants and injuring four others, a Press TV correspondent reported.

Pakistani security Forces have also destroyed five militants' hideouts in the bombardment.

In another development, security forces and local tribesmen killed at least three militants in the Jawaki area of the northwestern town of Kohat.

Forces also killed at least four militants after they attacked a security forces' base in the district of Lower Dir.

One security official also lost his life in the attack.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in the southwestern town of Quetta, one person was killed and two police officials were injured when unknown gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle in the town.

In the past three years, violent incidents have claimed around 800 lives in Quetta, the main town in Pakistan's Baluchistan province.

According to statistics revealed earlier in June by an annual report issued by a local organization, continuing unrest in Quetta has caused nearly 35,000 families to flee to other parts of the province.

12 Taliban killed, 2 soldiers injured in Orakzai Agency

At least 12 Taliban were killed when fighter jets pounded their hideouts in Orakzai Agency on Sunday, security sources said.

The sources told Daily Times that the fighter jets targeted Taliban hideouts in Mamozai, Khadezai, Molazai, Dabori and Alikhel areas of Upper Orakzai, killing 12 Taliban and inuring another 10.

Four terrorist hideouts were destroyed in the strikes as well.

Separately, two security forces personnel were injured in a landmine blast in Mashti Meela area of Lower Orakzai.

Meanwhile in Bajaur Agency, the security forces and volunteers of a tribal lashkar arrested five wanted Taliban, sources said. They said the Taliban were arrested from Bindari area of Mamoond tehsil.

The arrested Taliban were identified as Inayatullah, Zakirullah, Muhammad Faiz, Rasool Khan and Muhammadullah. Also, the political administration gave the Samsi tribe a two-day deadline to expel terrorists from their area, else strict action would be taken against the tribe. Also on Sunday, National Assembly member from Bajaur Agency Syed Akhunzada Chatan called upon the government to take steps to make changes in the Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR).

Addressing a press conference, he demanded the government compensate the people whose houses had been damaged during the military operation in the agency.

Two killed in Kohat bomb explosion

PESHAWAR:

At least two people were killed and another four injured in a roadside explosion in Ibrahim Khel village of Kohat on Sunday, police sources said.

The roadside bomb went off when a passenger vehicle passed over it, killing two people on the spot and injuring another four. The deceased were identified as Shah Wali and Nasir Bangash, while the injured were moved to a hospital. The condition of two of the inured was stated to be critical. app
