According to the Palestinian News Agency (wafa), the number of Palestinians who have been killed by the Israeli occupation forces since the beginning of the Palestinian Uprising (Al-Intifadha), on September 29, 2000, was 1,620, at the end of July 2002. According to Palestine Red Crescent Society, that figure was 1,682 deaths. However, when the estimated figure of Palestinians killed in the massacres of Nablus and Jenin, during April 2002, (about 500)* are added, the total figure becomes 2,182 killed and 19,995 injured.** Thousands of Palestinians have been arrested, hundreds of Palestinian houses were demolished and unknown number of trees were uprooted by the Israeli occupation soldiers. Also about 504 Israelis were killed and about 1948 were injured. The following is an attempt by Al-Jazeerah Information Center to document the number of victims of the Israeli military occupation starting from August 1, 2002 (Note: For Palestinian figures, there may be some differences between the total figures provided by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, Wafa, and President Arafat's Office. We will report the highest figure reported by these sources).
* Because of the US influence on the UN Security Council, the Council failed to send a Committee to investigate the massacre.
