The Chicago chapter of the International Solidarity Movement (http://www.palsolidarity.org/) invites you to hear Flo Razowsky, an American-born Jewish peace activist, describe her experiences in the occupied territories of Palestine as a long-term volunteer with ISM. On May 9 of 2003, Flo was in the media office of the ISM in Beit Sahour (Palestine) when it was raided and ransacked by Israeli Occupation Forces. Flo was charged with being in a “closed military zone” and after a legal fight was deported back to the United States. Prior to her arrest, she was a member of the Camp Against the Occupation in which more than 30 ISM volunteers and hundreds of local Palestinians participated in actions against the Apartheid Wall. Flo Razowsky (center) on opening day of the Camp Against the Occupation The local chapter of the International Solidarity Movement is presenting this program as part of “Jerusalem Day” activities in conjunction with the Freedom Summer Campaign that started on June 25 and concludes on August 19. The 56 day campaign (one day for every year of displacement and dispossession) will feature nonviolent, direct actions against the illegal occupation of Palestine. The International Solidarity Movement is a Palestinian-led movement committed to resisting the Israeli Occupation of Palestinian land using nonviolent, direct action methods and principles. Founded by a small group of activists in August of 2001, our movement aims to support and strengthen the Palestinian popular resistance by providing the Palestinian people with a resource, international protection and a voice, with which to resist nonviolently an overwhelming military occupation force. Our local chapter invites your active participation in our work. For further details contact us at: [email protected] or 773-489-3505

Freedom Summer in Palestine June 25- August 19 is Freedom Summer in Palestine where people from around the world are invited to participate in a 56 day campaign (one day for every year of displacement and dispossession) against occupation. Palestinians are mobilizing with the participation of their international supporters to draw the attention of the world to the true nature of the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and to demonstrate that the Palestinian struggle is for justice, dignity, human rights and freedom. Like the Civil Rights Movement in the United States, India's National Liberation Movement and the Anti-Apartheid Movement in South Africa, Freedom Summer will utilize nonviolent direct action strategies and tactics to overcome oppression. Plans call for ongoing peaceful resistance to construction of the Apartheid Wall where old and young will convergence at different points of the Wall in actions designed to highlight the reality of their imprisonment. Simultaneous demonstrations against checkpoints and removal of roadblocks in all regions are also planned. Convoys of busses from West Bank cities will converge on Jerusalem for Friday prayer. Churches will organize Christian prayers on this day also. The highlight of Freedom Summer will be a three week march by Palestinians, internationals and Israelis along the path of the Apartheid Wall, beginning in the Jenin area and through cities, towns and villages affected by the wall, all the way to Jerusalem. Seedlings will be planted to replace the olive trees destroyed by the Israeli military. For further information, please contact www.palsolidarity.org Genevieve Cora Fraser Massachusetts

Boycott Gas Stations Every Wednesday In reference to an editorial on your website by Charles A. Beers posted the 15th of May, "DON'T BUY GAS ON MAY 19TH": I was wondering if Mr. Beers had any measurable feedback as to the May 19 action he proposed. I forwarded his suggestion to all that I know, and the response was overwhelmingly positive in support. Irrespective if the economic effect is measurable, I feel such demonstration is quite symbolic, and is something very many seem to be willing to participate in. I go on to propose that that this demonstration of not buying gas on Wednesday should be extended to every Wednesday as long as gas prices remain high and the United States remains at war with the Middle-East. I also like to remark, I find your website without a doubt the most exciting one on the entire internet, and many of my friends tell me the same. I only wish one day the wars will one day settle to allow more intriguing cultural discussions. Respectfully, Robert Stumm Virginia, USA.

Pakistan Political Forum Presents a Wide-Ranging Panel Discussion:
Musharraf
Saving or Selling Pakistan?
President Pervez Musharraf seized power in a
bloodless coup in 1999 after overthrowing Nawaz Sharif. For some,
Musharraf intervened at a time when Pakistan was being run by an
established criminal class. He is a saviour, intent on modernising
t1:place>Pakistan, building strategic alliances with previous enemies
and pushing through reforms that will eventually establish democracy.
For others, his acquiescence with the US in the War on Terror, granting permission to allow Pakistan to be a launching pad to wage war on Afghanistan and his moves to normalise relations with India, places him as a ruthless dictator ready to sell Pakistan to the US. So who is Musharraf? A saviour or betrayer? Has Musharraf improved the lot of ordinary Pakistanis or has he turned Pakistan into an additional American state? This seminar, organised by the Pakistan Political Forum will seek to answer these questions, bringing together a host of opposing political and intellectual views. Panel Speakers Include: Shahed Sadullah Editor, The News International, Jang Group Abid Mustafa Political Analyst, South East Asian Affairs Sahibzada Jahangir Deputy Chair, Pakistan British Trade & Investment Forum Hassan Mujtaba Member of Executive Committee, Hizb ut-Tahrir Britain 6pm Sunday 11th July Conway Hall, Red Lion Square, London WC1 Holborn Station (Piccadilly Line) For further details contact: Nadeem Khan (Head of Pakistan Political Forum) [email protected] 07830 386 802
